I am certain that no Republican will have a problem with this or wonder why Sarah Palin wasn't tapped for the post.

Send her to one of the beer countries where her vast experience will provide us with more beer.

Biden's team actually tried to get her one as a sign of bipartisanship.  But when they asked her which ambassadorship she wanted, she kept answering, "All of them."

Play nice, support the Nation, and nice things ensue.

Surprised it wasn't for an ambassadorship in russia. Republicans have so many ties there already, it would be an easy transition for them.

Well she has certainly earned it. Or something?

Make her consul to Kamchatka so she can keep an eye on Putin.

Biden to grant Cindy McCain an ambassadorship

Why

The WFP? Yeah. She seems like she has the empathy and organizational skills for that.

Liaison to silver spoon heiresses wasn't available?

Okay.   At first I thought it was going to be a fluffy post, like to Andorra or something.

But:

U.S. ambassador to the U.N. World Food Programme, a mission based in Rome

Then this:

As chair of the McCain Institute board of trustees, McCain has worked on curbing world hunger and human trafficking. During the 2008 campaign, she traveled to Georgia with the U.N.'s World Food Programme to visit wounded soldiers after a Russian invasion and also monitored the program's work in Southeast Asia and Africa.

She is at least somewhat qualified for the position.

borrowed her car once in 1982 and returned it scratched.  Cindy has a long memory.

Shiatty & pointless comment given that the late Sen. McCain was one of the biggest Russia hawks around.

He wanted to strike back at them back when they began screwing with Georgia, and in retrospect he was likely correct.

Sure, but truth of the matter is that this is a great way to do bi-partisanship whiteout actually having to worry about GOP shills in powerful positions (other than the DINOs, obv).

Probably to make Manchin happy. IT'S BIPARTISAN!!!!

The TL;DR version

McCain is undergoing vetting to be nominated for U.S. ambassador to the U.N. World Food Programme, a mission based in Rome, according to two sources with knowledge of the matter. This comes after the administration declined to install at least one member from the opposing party in a Cabinet position - a practice of three consecutive presidents (BILL CLINTON, GEORGE W. BUSH and BARACK OBAMA) before DONALD TRUMP broke the streak.

A feel good position where the possible damage is constrained

/Expect no abortion grandstanding

Its really a shame that Meghan is going to inherit her moms fortune. Some people really need to experience a few years of ditch digging in order to build character.

Did ol' John Boy leave the GOP when it became abundantly clear that the party was a wholly owned subsidiary of the Russian government?  Did he even so much as criticize them for their naked treason?

Remember also that McCain endorsed Biden over Trump in AZ, helping him win the state. This is an excellent move on Biden's part.

So we are still selling ambassadorships to insanely rich white people.

That's nice.

Best outcome is she pisses off some Mafioso.

I expect a few ambassadorships will go to republicans. For the right countries, it's a nice way to reward someone and get them out of the way at the same time. On the other hand the whole diplomatic arm is gutted and anyone with some experience and connections willing to do the work is probably welcome right now.

2021-04-12 12:54:19 PM
Soon we'll hear the Republicans complaining about Biden stocking up ambassadorial slots with his friends.
And mrs. McCain will get another censure from the AZ GOP.

It's also a deft political move to show appreciation for her continued support as a member of the Republican elite that are repulsed by the Trumpian turn in the GOP and signals that others like her are welcome and have a friend not an enemy in a Biden admin.

Can you be serious for a minute?  There is a big problem with scotch exports to the US thanks to Brexit.  We need to call Jimmy Carter to resolve this very real crisis of our times.

You think Cindy endorsing Biden, and having the GOP attack her for it would like make her hate the party she is a part of. Especially after what Trump did to her father. She still shills them. She basically says whatever her husband wants her to. She has no opinion for herself. I would not be surprised if she is in an abusive relationship.

No sane person will ever know, but there's going to be a rampant apologetics justifying and defending it by reflex.

Yes, I'm sure the endorsement of a woman who liked to call the police on  minority's with white children helped Biden with the black, hispanic, and Native American populations that were responsible for Biden winning Arizona.

President JOE BIDEN is preparing to name Republican CINDY MCCAIN to a coveted ambassador post in Western Europe in what would be his administration's first Republican appointee to a Senate-confirmed position.

I think she's the only Republican left in the GQP.

I mean, literally in the post I was replying to

"As chair of the McCain Institute board of trustees, McCain has worked on curbing world hunger and human trafficking. During the 2008 campaign, she traveled to Georgia with the U.N.'s World Food Programme to visit wounded soldiers after a Russian invasion and also monitored the program's work in Southeast Asia and Africa."

Having run a food aid program tends to make you qualified to be a representative to one.

Hopefully, this will get Megan to quiet down and calm a bit.
Then again, she's always like showboating.

Not that I think anyone should be quiet
Other than the fact she's melodramatic and her perspective is skewed.

So it's a matter of quality and presentation
Not quantity and volume

Not if she's anything like trust board members I know. They hire people to throw parties and show up to a meeting once a quarter.
