I couldn't have a live-in relationship with someone who doesn't share a mutual diet (vegetarian), or smokes tobacco, or votes Republican, or believes in a god. The rest is mostly negotiable. Mostly.

We all talk about deal breakers. But if you don't have them, and date/woo accordingly, TFA is where you'll end up. There are 8 billion souls on this planet, and the means to readily winnow down your search. Don't put your junk into/around what is clearly toxic to you.

I'm not going to sleep with you, if that's what you're implying. But I get you're attracted to me and want to be the meat-eating exception of my adult life? Whatever.

There's a (lot of) lid for every pot. If you're making babby with someone who's eating habits, drug use, politics, etc. are a no-go for you, how is this going to turn out any differently from TFA. How do you expect to compromise when your kids are being mistreated?

My compatible partners are in the minority in the  USA. But that's still a vast choice, because of this internet thing that we're using right now overcomes geography, and the US is fairly populous.

If you're stuck in a small red rural town, and you have deal breakers like mine, yeah, you're gonna have to move if you want to increase your odds of actually making that connection. But really, why would you stay unless masochism?

If you don't have those fairly general standards, then please, by all means stay put. Really.

It's math.

Yikes. That is truly awful "advice".
From what LW says kids are eating unhealthy food almost constantly and are almost obese according to their pediatrician.
The response: they're hungry cuz they're growing and could just be "big boned", you're a bad person for fat-shaming.

Obesity runs in families due to learned eating habit FAR more often than because of medical issues like "glandular problems" (which is a real thing but very rare).
Letting your kids become obese by age 10 is putting them at a higher risk of a multitude of medical issues for the rest of their lives. Even if they wish to lose weight once they gain control of their own diets the longer they've been overweight the harder it will be.

Wanting your children to be healthy and not eat garbage is not fat-shaming, it's good parenting.
No, being overweight doesn't automatically make you unhealthy, but it does put you at a higher risk of certain diseases. That's a biological fact. Bullying people for being fat is wrong, but so is ignoring medical data as some kind of virtue signal.

You don't think "If they've been seeking comfort in food, that seems like an understandable response to the pandemic, and I'm glad they have a source of comfort" is something a responsible parent should encourage? Feeling sad? Have a snickers. Bored? Take a bag of crisps. Want attention from [insert parent here]? Wait a few years and date someone who looks and acts similar.

These are all very healthy and normal ways to deal with the issues that show up in life. Saying no might hurt their fee-fees.

I just mentioned "glandular problems" in particular as it is often the go-to excuse for obesity, and is made without any testing to confirm an actual medical issue.

Obviously there are real biological reasons that some people are above average weight/obese, but eating habits (often learned during childhood) are still the biggest issue. And that's why Prudie (or whomever) accusing a father who is trying to raise healthy kids who don't consider "fried" a food group of fat-shaming is a dick move.

Here's the biggest thing.

IIRC there's also some speculation that obesity causes boys' puberty to include higher estrogen levels/lower testosterone levels which can offset muscular development and even cause skeletal variation like wider hips.  The closest I can find to support that is "the presence of visceral fat can interfere with testosterone production," though so maybe that was just some rumor mill bullshiat I saw one time.

I'm not sure if it's the same thing but I know that excessive fat can sequester hormones (basically lock them away so they aren't available to do their job).

I had a colleague who had in the past been (in her own words) a huge fatass. When she was trying to get pregnant she said that the best thing that happened to her was that her doctor was brutally honest and told her that if she wanted to increase her chances, she really needed to lose weight. The fat she was carrying was messing up her estrogen/progesterone levels, vastly decreasing her fertility.

I imagine it might be the same for teenage boys, excessive fat sequesters testosterone when it is needed the most for growth and development. That's just a theory though, I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on TV.
