Honestly I wouldn't mind if NRA members said that this was an acceptable price to pay for easy access to guns. That's a fair position to take - what pisses me off is that they lie and say easier access to guns is about 'safety' when nothing could be further from the truth.

The thing is, they don't even have an ethos.

When something like this happens, you'd think rational gun owners and supporters of the right to allow gun personhood (I mean, f*ck, at this rate...) would be able to say "f*ck these people in particular."

But no. They won't even push for patents like this to be punished.

It's not an unreasonable question. Over half of the gun deaths in this country are suicides. But you probably already know that.

If I was going to kill myself that's how I would do it. And I'd pick a place where the birds could clean up the mess.

I wouldn't mind if they simply went with 'I like guns. I use my guns safely, legally and responsibly. I don't think it's right to restrict that due to other people.' It's an honest argument. I respect that point. I've met people who have guns for target shooting or hunting, and they're fine. I happen to enjoy target shooting with a bow and arrow.*

Unlike the ones they use, it isn't built around the claim that they need to have one in order to kill people. It's a reasonable place to be and from there we can have a rational discussion about sensible gun policy from there. Just be honest and discuss the issue in good faith.

*Yet somehow I don't ever feel the need to cut about in public with a bow over my shoulder and a quiver of arrows across my back like I was Robin Hood heading to Starbucks for a cappuccino.

Beat that strawman a little harder, why doncha? Holding magsturbators responsible - you MAGATS always screech and look about "personal responsibility" when it comes to starving the poor or killing dark people - for their magical fetish-objects means Obama is going to come in his Black helicopter and make them all gay marry do they can get death panels on their obamaphones.

Prosecutors treat negligent gun handling like it was a Religious Sacrament. And calling that bullshiat out means I'm going to come and take everyone's double gun. You could not be more paranoid if you majored in amphetamine psychosis.

It would be hard to prove intent. That leaves some kind of negligence crime. Gun owners won't go for that because it implies there are times when a gun isn't appropriate, such as when going shopping with kids in the car. If I asked the gun owner "Why was there a gun in the car" I expect a response which ignores the question. "I have a legal right to own and even carry that gun" doesn't explain why that gun was in that car at that time. It's probably going to be impossible to sell that idea in Texas though.

You're right. Everything in this country should be regulated based on the 0.000001% who live in areas with no ambulances but drivable Walmarts, and frequent grizzly bear attacks. It would be totally stupid to legislate based on the experiences of the overwhelming majority of citizens.

Why stop there, though? Floridians should be prevented from locking their cars because people in polar bear country might need to duck into the closest vehicle to escape a hungry bear. Buildings in Kansas should be volcano proof because why shouldn't the Hawaiian experience be the default?  Michigan needs boating laws to preserve the manatee population.

So I'll be honest, I collect firearms, and I hunt and target shoot.  I also would never carry on my person and hope to god I'd never have to use my guns in anger.  I would prefer to keep my collection, and not give it up based on the actions of others.

I also recognize that we have a problem with gun culture in America, and gun owners like myself have become targets of rabid pro-gun propaganda outlets.  I am Navy veteran with mental health issues, but my hobby has helped keep me grounded.  So I support meaningful gun control while owning guns and being damn close to a red flag myself.

In short, shiat is farked, Im a hypocrite, and fark the NRA.

2021-04-12 6:14:55 AM
Im a avid gun owner/collector etc, And I believe that anyone that leaves a firearm unsecured that results in a death should be charged with capitol murder and subject to the death penalty. And those people that "accidentally" shoots someone while hunting? Same thing.

2021-04-12 6:25:42 AM
If you have to carry a gun everywhere keep it under your control.  These sorts of incidents shouldn't happen I own a dozen guns and they are all safely locked up it's not hard to do guns are dangerous. I don't get how people can be so cavalier about guns I bet this mother wouldn't  have let her kids have access to matches or fireworks.
