Good ideas. Definitely bookmarked for future perusal.
Two things though...
A micro plane and hard boiled eggs? Fark off!
Shallow bowls are better? So plates are bestest then?

Still, those are lovely salads.

I was camping this weekend and had leftover carrot, iceberg, cabbage store bought mix with added tomato, olive oil and vinegar and butcher quality bacon. This morning I had some leftover butcher quality bratwurst. I reheated that and added it to the salad for breakfast. Didn't want to carry anything back home.  It was really good in the camping framework.

They couldn't find a picture of a mandoline? They are not even trying on these things.

I have the best plates ever.  They are completely flat in the center and curl up at the very edge, Very much like a very shallow bowl.  No wasted space.

I am not into gadgets, but I use this a few times a week.  Just throw the lettuce or spinach in a bowl and cut away.

I'm sorry, what the hell is that? Some kind of space-age IUD?

Pro-Tip: any salad can be improved by adding raisins.
However unless it a marinated salad such as some slaws the raisins need to be plumped first.
Amatures will just plump them with the dressing to go on the salad.
Experts will chose a flavor complementing the rest of the salad.
The plumper choices are endless including such as orange juice, salty hot sauce, heavily hopped beer, bourbon,, etc.

Just think of them as croutons without the crunch but with twice the flavor burst.

Always alternate the tortilla chips.  Don't just throw them on the plate & plop the other toppings on.

I'd go dried cranberry instead.

Wait. What!?! Nothing is improved by adding raisins. Ever. Don't get me wrong, raisins are delicious on their own. But added to something else? No. They occupy this weird place between savory and dessert, where adding them to another substance renders that substance an abomination. I thought we all agreed on this!!!  I thought we all knew that Karen's pound cake and Jeremy's oatmeal cookies were godawful and that we were all humoring them. Was that not the case?

I really need to get fresh herbs into my salads.

No. I'm not toasting nuts for a salad. Walnuts and pecans crushed work just fine in the family dinner salad since I came back here for the covid.

Also I'm not gonna ever use mayo as a crutch for a vinigerrete. I'm either gonna go all on for a mustard and some spice or I'm gonna go all in for a fruit from. The garden.

Only time I ever used mayo was for home made ranch and to skip some steps.

Mustard dressing is amazing and blackberry balsamic is so underrated its criminal (though that keeps turning out a little too sweet for me)

Try dressing with good evoo, salt and pepper. Amazing what keeping it simple can do.

Rule #1 for making the best salad - put what you like on it.

Like avocado? Add avocado.  Don't like croutons? Don't add croutons.

I like salads. I love burgers. Last night I was making food for myself, and a friend who is doing keto, but we wanted burgers.

Tomato bun bruh. That shiat was delicious. Just thick slices of tomatoes for the bun.

/In my application it was a mix of bison, elk and wild boar for the meat, spring mix, avocado, cucumber, red onion and sriracha mayo

right? sometimes I like fried onyon, sometimes I don't. ditto craisins, feta, walnuts, chevre. put what the hell you want on it.

simple is always good! there is seriously a reason why we put oil&vinegar S&P on subs.

but... possibly my favorite dressing of the evars, was one the ex-wife used to make. no real "recipe" - which is a little odd/imprecise given that the woman is a doctorb of philosophy. ennahoo, it goes something like:

- metric fark-tonne of raw garlic
- blue cheese
- cottage cheese
- I guess maybe plain yogurt or sour cream or something
- couple hot peppers
- put it all in the blitzer and blitz the living daylights out of it
- ...I think that's really it?

wish I'd taken a photo, but at my new favorite place (well, pre-plague-era) I took my father-in-law (who, if you have ever met a 3-year-old, you still haven't met as picky/fussy an eater)

I had a salad of greenbrier, blueberries, yucca flowers, radish sprouts

and because the chef knows me, a lovely plate of fern puree, crispy fiddleheads, bit of young fern sprout

FIL loudly demanded, "I JUST WANT A GREEN SALAD!!!" - so chef made him an impromptu: butter lettuce, minced onion, and vinaigrette. holy-wow, was that the best salad I ever tasted. wish I'd taken a photo.

lol, he'd also demanded "steak!!! well-done!! butterfly it if you have to!" - the lady owner and I rolled eyes at each other, and we somehow managed to coax him into veal cheeks with chard puree and pickled chard.

/he was still asking, months later, when would I take him there again

meanwhile, back at the hacienda...

1/2lb Ronzoni Healthy Harvest whole-wheat/whole-grain/whatever rotini, or dealer's choice. cook as usual. I drained it and put en'frigo immediately with a handful of ice cubes.

in the food processor:
- 1 large red pepper, washed, minus seeds and guts
- 1 medium onion, slice or shred is fine
- 1 tomato, pulverized (Rosita hates tomatoes in most incarnations, but this was fine/acceptable, lol)
- half a romaine lettuce

dressing:
- 3T olive oil
- 4T apple cider vinegar
- 2-3t brown mustard
- 6+ cloves garlic, minced/crushed
- 1-2T cilantro chutney
- coupla dashes 7-spice
