I mean...

Just a couple of articles down, a 9-year-old found a gun in his mom's car, and killed his 11-year-old brother.

And nobody has been arrested. And given that it was Tejas, I can assume the worst the mom will face is some small fine.

Wait?  That's illegal?  Everyone did that with four year old in the 80s.  Not the sex shop part, but certainly at the grocery store.

Same here. No bicycle helmets or seatbelts either. We were fine. I mean...the survivors were fine.

A couple of negligent moms going to a sex shop in North Stonington? This story just writes itself.

I hate careless parents like that. You're supposed to leave them with the creepy guy in the curtained-off booths for safekeeping.

The curtain protects their delicate eyes from seeing anything dirty.

Stories from my dad as a kid... when visiting the aunt/uncle, the adults would get the kids into their station wagon and drive about 15 miles up and around a mountain, so they could go to a bar (even though there were much closer bars). The kids would basically have a sleepover until last call. Then they'd drive home...

Yup. It was a wild time. My aunt parked her car in front of the grocery store with the engine running. One of my cousins crawled into the driver's seat, threw it into reverse, backed across the road, then threw it in drive and crashed into the grocery store. So blame my cousin for why we can't have nice things.

I still remember the time my cousin and I left my younger brother inside the car when we went to a strip club.

But in all fairness, my cousin and I were 19, and my brother was 17.

/We almost got him inside.

I put the car in neutral and nearly killed two kids and coasted into a house.

I was 2 or 3.

Mom needed to use the f*cking e-brake.

And here I feel like I'm pushing it when I run down to the parkade to get something out of the car while the kid's asleep in bed.

Let's make it against the law to force your kids to watch Barney for more than 3 hours straight. Or make it against the law to not give your kids participation trophies if more than 5 children participated in the same activity. Maybe make it against the law to feed your kids nothing but beans and black coffee before handing them over to your ex during weekend visiting hours.

On the topic of your username, my parents left a 4 year-old Snap in a vehicle with her 1 year-old brother to look at new vehicles. They heard him crying, but he was at the point where they were letting him "cry it out."

The crying did not stop, so they returned to find me slapping him.
"I thought if I kept hitting him, he would stop."

They waited a few years before leaving us unattended in a car again.

As parental incompetence and irresponsibility go, this woman's is comparatively mild compared to that.

No, but the theme is the same: placing her own gratification above the child's welfare and safety. Doesn't matter if she's neglecting the kid to go fishing, get drunk, or add to her Bad Dragon collection.

You know I've often wondered about this stuff. If you're a single dad, do you take your kids with you to the liquor store? The weed store? I honestly don't know. I think it should be fine for young children to go into those stores with an adult.

I don't know about the latter, but I have certain heard about adult parents with two-year-old children get refused alcohol sales for having a minor with them.

I mean, I do not know the circumstances, kind of car, whether it can be remotely locked or had a fob they kept on their person, etc... some modern cars could be perfectly capable of securing a child for a short stint.

But if we're talking a 15-minute interval then I'd have to assume either they did something rather heinous OR... well, let's just say, if this were a straight couple and a liquor store, nobody would have called it in.

To logically conjecture here, it was probably a while. It wouldn't be like running into a convenience store for a quart of milk, or making a beeline for your brand of whisky at the liquor store.

She had to carefully calculate and consider what would fit where, and that takes time.

One of the problems with their case is that there were two of them. One of them could have stayed with the kid. If you're a single parent you get a little more leeway.

I encountered this the other day while out walking. A lady saw me crossing the street to a car and asked me if it was mine because there was a child inside alone. The kid wouldn't answer as to where their parents were and so I stuck around with the car pondering as to what to do next.

Guess what came strolling around the corner of the block from the liquor store? Daddy! Except he looked like the type of guy who had no qualms smashing my head in with the bottle of alcohol he just bought.

Luckily I was on a business call so it just seemed like I was intensely negotiating an order without any mind to my surroundings. Otherwise if I had spoken out I would have had a piece of mind splattered on the pavement.

I like to think I did enough of the right thing to wait until the parent got there but not enough to make sure they don't do it again since I have my own kids who need a dad.

I prefer buying from physical shops, that way I can try out the display model first in the shop.

Or so I like to imagine that was their rationale.

If I had to guess I'd say it would fork out at either end into two penises to fill everything and more!
