It's a shorter name for sunglasses. Blame the Australians for this one, but people in the UK should know better also.

So a little over half are half way there and a little over a tenth are already there with vaccines that aren't 100% effective so if they go wallow around in Covid like pigs in slop, some of them are bound to wind up getting it anyway even *if* they're fully vaccinated?

TIME TO HEAD BACK TO THE PUBS EVERYBODY!

At least for the next 3 weeks when they lock down the country again due to the massive covid outbreak going around the country that mysteriously started.

I was aware that the British were slowly devolving, but being incapable of saying 'sunglasses' and having to replace it with a shortform 'sunnies' is a new low.

I respect their strategy. It is an experiment though.

It's just beer gardens opening today, still can't drink inside the pubs.

The weather has decided to muscle in on that action though, it's snowing.

They experimented the whole of 2020 with optimistic re-openings, Rishis dishes, saving xmas, etc etc. They were all followed by huge spikes in infection and death.

I'm not sure respect is what 'caving to public pressure' really deserves.

Hospitalisations and deaths are plummeting. If you don't give people some relaxation of the rules as things clearly get better the rules lose all credibility. This is a fairly minor opening. Still a lot more than Scotland so as before we are looking south to see what happens.

I meant their vaccination strategy. Prioritizing the first dose, and pushing the second one out like 12 weeks.

There are suggestions that the longer delay may actually be more effective than the standard four weeks - which as I understand it was only the arbitrary time used for the trials and not expected to be the best. The people who got a smaller first dose of AZ also waited longer for their second, and it seems that the delay may account for the improved protection seen rather than the smaller dose.
