Do you like intense, well shot, and entertaining monster action? Yes, absolutely.
Do you like to pick apart poorly plotted monster movies like somehow the human story has anything to do with why the movie exists? Probably not.

Rather than go to the movies, I took the opportunity to test out my brand new 65" 4k tv with this movie. In my living room, a tv that size was almost like being at the movies (which was the goal).

Like all of these monster-verse movies, it was better than I expected it would be. It goes some WILD places that I really didn't see coming. Very enjoyable B movie.

I suggest watching the last one again as a refresher. It sort of just jumps into action and unless you remembered where it left off. I am glad I did not spend money in the theater for it. Thanks to Marvel, movies are now doing a 45-minute fight scene of the same moves over and over. After a while, you don't care who is wins just as long as it ends. A good movie to kill some time that you really don't have to pay attention to.

I like how they drop down from Antarctica, then just a short hike later, they're under Hong Kong. They must have been really close to the center.

Saw it in IMAX opening night and it was great fun. Theatre was at reduced capacity. People wore their masks and kept their distance. It was safe.

It was safer than the bike ride I did that afternoon. Safer than the drive to the theatre. Safer than the walk to and from the parking garage.

They did some sort of warp thing to get down there, so they appeared to have moved pretty fast. If they were at the center of the Earth, you presumably wouldn't have had to moved far to get to the other side if the world.

The warp thing seems to be an explanation for how Kong moved so fast through the tunnel Godzilla created.

The best way to take the movie is that it's a live-action cartoon with cartoon physics. There's explanations for everything, but nothing like real science. And that's okay, because it's a Godzilla movie and that's the kind of craziness I paid to see.

I want to see it but i'll wait for bluray,  That it irks me when people try to compare any film to one outsideof it's genre as in many cases it is never going to work as a fair comparison.   Kaiju films will never be masterpieces of cinema and that's just fine, what they are is an exciting escapist experience that one should approach with an uncritical eye.

That said it is fair to point any egregious faults though to be sure the human stories in many Kaiju films were less than spectacular.

In short don't buy a ticket to Godzilla and expect to see a dramatic masterpiece.

Oh yeah, it is complete cartoon physics. I just appreciate it when the writers at least make an attempt to handwave the silliness with some of explanation.

These days you see way too many scripts where it makes no sense and there is no attempt made to at least handwave it. The Michael Bay Transformers movies were especially bad about this.

Godzilla vs Kong is kind of amazing in a way, because everything fits together. Sure, it's all incredibly convenient and stuffed with the most outrageous nonsense, but all the dominos are set up and knocked down in an efficient and tidy manner. There's never any questions as to how anyone got where they're at, what they're trying to do, or what their motivations are. Even Godzilla's actions get quickly and satisfactorially explained. Despite being a crazy funhouse ride of absolute lunacy, it boasts a fairly tight screenplay.

It's the anti-JJ Abrams film.

I wasn't sold on it until they got there.  Then it hit me that the filmmakers were going all in with how crazy the premise of the series is and I loved it.

Apart from having Millie Bobby Brown and generic not-Treat Williams as her douche-canoe father back for some unknown reason (they added jack-shiat to the film) it was entertaining enough for an afternoon... AT HOME.

I was looking for a dumb movie to put on the other night, something I wouldn't have to pay close attention to because I was also prepping food for my son's birthday yesterday.

This one was an option, but then scrolling through the titles I thought "dumb comedy" was more the mood I was looking for. So instead I went with "Buddy Games."

Now I knew this wasn't going to be good by any means, and the humor was going to be purely sophomoric. I can get down with really stupid comedy from time to time so I thought this might just fit the bill.

But holy hell, that has to be one of the worst movies ever made. And that's judging it against the insanely low expectations I had going in. So I just thought I'd pass along this helpful PSA just in case anyone else has the dumb urge to check it out.

I feel like non-Godzilla fans don't realize that Godzilla films have an established history of having the humans be really, really useless, if not counterproductive in every single regard. That's part of the amusement.

We turned off Buddy Games about ten minutes in. That was pure garbage.

Godzilla versus Kong, though, was pretty fun.  And I'll stick with my initial reaction: Godzilla is the superior monster. He'd defeat Kong nine times out of ten. But this was much more of King Kong's movie.

No, it's just one part that I chose to comment on. If you want a full laundry list of all the silliness contained in the movie, it's going to take one of those incredibly nitpicky "one minute at a time" podcasts.

Howeva, and I know this is a weird complaint about a movie that has giant fighting monsters and a hollow Earth, can we please stop making crazy conspiracy guys who are actually right about everything the heroes of movies? At one time it was kind of cute I guess, but these days it's just a bummer

I'm actually watching it for the second time right now. It was what I expected and I enjoyed it. They did what I wanted - accounted for the size difference, gave both kaiju some time to get over, gave Kong a hope spot, and they ended up working right. This was very classic pro-wrestling booking (which makes sense as the Suit-mation creators intended kaiiju combat to look like pro-wrestling.) It was a Kong movie featuring appearances by  Godzilla, the Skulleaters and others.

As opposed to all the other Godzilla movies that were based on hard science? Complaining about implausibility in a giant monster attack movie is like complaining about implausibility in a SpongeBob cartoon. All you're really saying is you didn't understand what ride you bought a ticket for.
