Dwayne Johnson responds to recent survey showing almost half of Americans would vote for him to be president: 'It'd be my honor'

Does he respond with, "Most Americans are stupid?"

How about you go for something lower down the rung, like Congress or governor of California first, and let's see how you do there, ok?  Is it too much to ask that you get some...I don't know...EXPERIENCE first before assuming the highest position of power in the farking world?

Seriously, I like the guy but we need to stop this worshipping of celebrities.

He's amassed a fortune without the help of his daddy and doesn't seem to be grifting any and everyone in his life instead relying on his own talent.

That doesn't qualify anyone to be President. That's not an office were you go to "eyeball it"

Even that piece of shiat Reagan did stints as governor and lower level shiat.

Exactly.

LET'S NOT DO THAT AGAIN.

Also: Government is not a business. This American idiocy of elevating shiatheel CEOs as examples of what's wanted in a political leader is just that, pure idiocy.

Dream on. The Rock can't be President. He was born in Nova Scotia, which is in Canada, and no President can be born outside the USA except Obama, who was born in seven foreign countries including Hawaii, and John McCain who was born in the Panama Canal. Er, in the Panama Canal Zone.

Ted Cruz was born in Canada of a Cuban Father, so Republicans would have no problem with him being President, but the Rock has gone Hollywood Values. Remember that time he played the hockey goon who became the Tooth Fairy?

2021-04-11 8:57:56 AM
On the one hand, he's not talking like he'd be doing us all some great favor if he ran, like the last guy did.  On the other, maybe we should elect presidents who have at least some idea of what it might mean to run the country.

So? Like, good for him, but that doesn't qualify someone to be President.

\unfortunately the actual qualifications are even worse.

To quote Douglas Adams, "The President in particular is very much a figurehead - he wields no real power whatsoever. He is apparently chosen by the government, but the qualities he is required to display are not those of leadership but those of finely judged outrage. For this reason the President is always a controversial choice, always an infuriating but fascinating character. His job is not to wield power but to draw attention away from it."

This is becoming more true with every election.

No celebrities, and if there's celebrities their IP must be voided to avoid emoluments violations.

The emoluments law needs to be tightened and enforceable.

They should have to pass background checks as if obtaining security clearances.

I like the Rock significantly LESS due to this announcement.

And Sonny Bono.

He mutilated copyright laws and wounded scientific readiness to give his horrible family a payday.

All celebrity politicians have been dumpterfires.

A celebrity announcing an interest in running is a good reason to blocklist them in Hollywood and never watch their movies again.

Hey!  He realized there was a problem, located the smartest guy available, and put him in charge of fixing it.  That is better than what most politicians today would do.

Later he caved in to business interests, but that is also what most politicians would do.

While on one hand I have f*cking had it with celebrity candidates, provided that the Rock was actually intellectually curious about the job and appreciated the weight of the office and his performance stemmed from an earnest desire to strengthen the country through making the best possible opportunities for all Americans and most importantly was surrounded by folks driven by the same attitude and who actually know what the f*ck they're doing, I would bet that he would eventually grow into the role and be regarded as one of the better presidents.

That all being said, let the motherf*cker run for House or Senate and go through the learning parts there. Or just stay out.

2021-04-11 9:56:16 AM
Oh you know what Pizzagate and Qanon need, some celebrities running for office to target for terrorist attacks.

This is all anyone else needs to know about the celebrities running, they're all too stupid to realize they're provoking a terrorist cult and breathing life into it.

If the Rock runs as a Dem it will devolve into the Hollywood party versus the Internet baloney party.

How about someone with master's degrees in science? America needs a Merkel.

Seeing as the only real qualifications to run for president are, be at least 35 and a natural born US citizen. The bar is pretty farking low.

But we do need to stop electing on name recognition.

My parents voted for trump, then were "surprised" that as president he acted just like he did running for president. I have berated them for years-this is one of the reasons you don't vote someone with no track record into office. They said he didn't have time to build a career in politics, I said there are plenty of people who never get to be president, no one "deserves" it.

Long story short, dad died, mom still listens to derpy right wing radio ("it's funny!", shudder) but hates trump and voted for Biden.

Johnson would have to run as a democrat because he actually worked his way up in life from the bottom, he didn't inherit his wealth after a rich childhood like Republicans like to vote for in a presidential election.

2021-04-11 10:02:28 AM
Here is the counterpoint of why the Rock is a good choice.

The only qualifications that matter are being a natural born US citizen, being at least 35 years old and getting a majority of the electoral vote.

You may disagree, but after that, it's a matter of opinion of what makes a good president. And if you forget the last part(i.e. getting enough electors) you will lose alot of the time. Electability needs to be a major factor. That's what killed Hillary. She would have been a very competent president, but she wasn't electable.

Trump won because he is a great con man. But being able to get in front of the cameras and sell America your vision is part of what makes a good president.

Just as long as it's not in engineering-those assholes don't know what they don't know. (Engineer-only kinda kidding. My engineer relatives explained their expertise in biology, economics, ecology, and policy throughout my childhood.)

/my phd advisor was friends with merkel's husband. My PhD advisor was an excellent human.
//in this country, it feels like a leader like merkel would be too profoundly good to believe.
