It's an Australian tabloid.  Either it didn't happen at all, or he lightly threatened to kill her.

Alphax: It's an Australian tabloid.  Either it didn't happen at all, or he lightly threatened to kill her.

It was a reprint from the NY Post, so odds have increased that it didn't really happen.

AOC spokeswoman Lauren Hitt told The Post Saturday the congresswoman had not asked police to intervene in any way, and said her office has asked Capitol Police to explain what happened. AOC was not behind the police visit to Wentz, who is the co-host of the left-wing podcast "Left biatches," the Capitol Police said in a statement.

Why would CHP show up to question this guy?  This story makes as much sense as Joe Bonamassa being a blues legend does.

2 plainclothes CHiPs?

Yeah, no.

Either a fabrication outright for attention or there is way more to the story than we've heard is my instant gut reaction here.

What kind of shiatty reporting is that?  I want to judge for myself.

As far as I can tell, this story, without the offensive tweet, began with Tara Reade a few days ago.  That's my first sign this story is not truthful.

Sounds like some RW CHPs with help from so,e RW CBPs are pulling some bullshiat to make AOC look like a fascist or something.
Why aren't they visiting all those crazy MAGAts who make a lifestyle out of threatening pretty much everybody.

Why is that not good? If someone tags you in a post that is something like "me and @so-and-so are locked and loaded and gonna go kill some blah people!" it likely means that you have some relationship to a crazed, threatening person even if you're not actually planning to commit a crime.

I don't see the issue with checking into both the author and the tagged individual. If you're innocent, you won't be charged with anything.

The one part that rings true is the part where the USCP is in an increased state of alert.
I think most of us can agree that OAC likely get far more threats, death and other, than the average congresscritter.
That the story is being exclusively pushed by Murdoch publications makes me doubt the existence of all parties involved.

Step 1: Set up a fake twitter account
Step 2:  Send credible sounding threats to politicians (doesn't matter what affiliation).  Tag your political rivals in the tweet.
Step 3:  Your political rivals have to spend all day talking to the police.
Bonus: News stories about your political rivals being involved published in tabloid media.

The ruling on the field is that this is garbage.  This is the post the @queeralamode said caused the visit:

On April 1,
@AOC
did a livestream with Michael Miller, the head of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York. She was asked about "peace between Israelis and Palestinians." Her response was incredibly underwhelming, to say the very least:

There are all sorts of questions about this article.  But it is an issue worth discussing.

Twitter and all social media, is just insane. you look at it from a historical perspective.  Anyone can post anything for the whole world to see?   Free speech is vital, but making threats against government officials, elected or otherwise, in public within months of a domestic attack on the Capital will get investigated.  Making anything near a threat will be investigated.  At what point does that become a problem?  An investigation is not the same as criminal charges.  An interview with plain clothes police is less of a intrusion than being arrested and taken in for questioning.
As AOC is the target of the right wing lie machine, this story is being spread for political purposes by people who don't have a problem with government overreach, when it's controlled by their side.

I don't know where we should land in the balance between free speech online and the potential for violence from political extremist.

Well I do.You draw the line at actual threats.   But in order to make it work we need to amend section 230 that shields websites from liability from violence, threats, and terrorism that's planned on their platforms.

It's farking insane how that law is structured.

And in your hypothetical, they would look into you for making terroristic threats. A side investigation would check into me as a person of interest and potential accomplice, but they would quickly find that we have no prior relationship and move on quite quickly.

Why does it matter if this is done in tweet form versus someone making that threat in person and then falsely implicating an accomplice when the cops question them? I'd rather we err on the side of following up too many threats than not enough given the current climate where RWNJs are armed to the teeth and have a proven track record of acting out on their worst impulses.
