It's believed that Woods inadvertently hit the accelerator instead of the brake, Capt. James Powers said.

Bill-f*cking-sh*t. I'm sure that SUV is quick, but not "I inadvertently hit the accelerator, and the car jumped from 45 to 75 in a split second" fast.
I've inadvertently hit the accelerator before, but the car accelerates maybe 2-3mph before I lift my foot.
How much more will the police protect Tiger?

We may have to put him down.  Once a tiger can't hunt it's normal prey of Perkin's waitresses, it'll turn to easier targets.  Like Farkers or even 4Chans.

"It's believed that Woods inadvertently hit the accelerator instead of the brake, Capt. James Powers said."

I'm calling BS on that. A 300-360HP 4600 pound SUV will takes several seconds to accelerate from 45 to 75 even when floored - far more than enough time to take one's foot off the gas when they realize they hit the wrong pedal. More likely he was just driving too fast in the first place. And if he's incapable of knowing the difference between the brakes and gas, he shouldn't be allowed to drive.

Ok Perkin's is probably, maybe, definitely too obscure for FARK.

I acknowledge Tiger has 300-400 times my net worth. He is famous, and amazing at what he does.

But, you know what? in my opinion I would not replace my life with his. I have a stable loving marriage with the same person for over 25 years. I had a father and mother who love me unconditionally and let me explore who I was and become who I wanted to be. Those few around me I call friends, are true friends who want nothing from me but my friendship.  I am secure and able to enjoy my life.

I cannot have lexuses and rolls royces, or 4 million dollar engagement rings, or a 7,000 dollar suit, or stay in 10,000 a night luxury suites.. but if there is anything normal I want, i am lucky enough to be able to have it. I can truly say i want for nothing.

He may sleep on piles of money and have access to as much strange he want wants, but I do not for one moment think he is as happy as me.

I have been absolutely blessed and lucky to have what i have. I worked hard, but i started on 1st base with a good lead off. I recognize that. I know it is easy to say money cannot buy happiness when you have it, but I would never want his life and I am willing to bet above 50/50 odds, he would rather have a life like mine in the end.

This happens more than you think. NHTSA has a whole white paper on it. "Pedal Application Errors". Fark won't let me link to it, just google NHTSA Pedal Application Errors.

A victim does not realize they are pressing the wrong pedal. They believe they are on the brake. As the car accelerates they press even harder, compounding the problem. Panic sets in, the leg becomes basically locked in place and unable to move. A crash is no more than a couple of seconds away - not enough time to realize the issue.

Anyway, give the that paper a skim. It's interesting.

Happens all the time with old people. It's the cause of the Toyota problems with unintended acceleration: When you graph the accidents by age group, it's like a hockey stick chart that sharply trends upwards after age 55. It was caused by old people stepping on the accelerator pedal and swore they were stepping on the brake pedal.

A posted speed limit of 45 mph in the USA really means an average speed approaching 65 mph. Combine that with someone driving a new, swanky luxury SUV with a sport engine and you get speeds of about 70 mph. Then, a driver who wants to slow down accidentally mashes the accelerator of a twin-turbo engine and it's easy to get into the 80s in a couple of seconds.

neilbradley: far more than enough time to take one's foot off the gas when they realize they hit the wrong pedal

The problem with pedal misapplication incidents is that there is a psychological condition where people who mix them up genuinely believe they are stepping on the brake pedal. They jam the accelerator to the floor and cannot physically or psychologically distinguish that they are not stepping on the brake pedal. They jam that pedal to the floor and enter a zone of confusion where they cannot figure out why the car is accelerating and they blame it on "the computer" or whatever they think is controlling the car - anything but blaming it on themselves. They literally lose their mind, do not know what they are doing, and will perpetually insist that they are not the cause of the accident.

Yes. During the height of the Toyota craze there was a housekeeper who rammed a Prius into a brick/stone wall across the street from her employer. She swore she was stepping on the brake. The black box revealed constant accelerator pedal input and then the violent collision.

There was also a Camry accident in Wisconsin where an elderly woman rammed into a business she swore she stepped on the brake. The accident was caught on surveillance video and revealed no brake application (brake lights illuminated) until she was plowed through the wall of the business. She continued to insist that she was being blamed for something that was not her fault.

I've inadvertently hit the accelerator before, but the car accelerates maybe 2-3mph before I lift my foot.
How much more will the police protect Tiger?

I didn't read it that way.  They're not saying a pedal mix up was the cause of the excessive speed.  They're saying once the car was out of control he smashed the gas rather than the brake, which explains the lack of braking in the black box recorder.

Vtimlin: TwilightZone: The truth is Tiger is a lousy driver.

Are you saying Asians cant drive or are you saying black people cant drive?

I'm saying Tiger can drive, he's just bad at it.

Woods probably paid for the next 10 policemen's balls

He should take a softer approach to travel and just putt around town after being layed up like this.

Leader O'Cola: 85 in a 45 and a past "incident"

Yet no blood draw....

Celeb justice

Look on the bright side. He got white celeb treatment. That's progress.

Caused by speed, that's good work there Lou.

neilbradley: I'm calling BS on that.

That's not what they're saying.  He was already traveling  80+ mph, coasting downhill, and slammed on the gas instead of the break literally a second before the first impact, which was the median curb that launched the car across the oncoming lanes.

If I had to speculate, I'd say he pulled his feet away from the pedals.

There's also about 5 pages of notes from a detective interviewing multiple people and reviewing footage from multiple cameras, all to gather evidence regarding signs of Woods being intoxicated.   Short of a blood sample, there was none.

This is from the black box data:

Yes, but we're not talking about his golf game.

Probably running late, speeding and texting the people he was meeting that morning.

SurelyShirley: I've lived 5 years in the South Bay (Hermosa) and spent quite a bit of time in PV. Most of Mrs Shirley's family still lives in PVE and we're down that way quite often and are familiar with the area, so...

This.

I used to work up on the hill and traveled throughout PV, RPV, PVE, RHE, and everywhere in between. You literally have narrow winding roads through rolling hills full of thick trees and bushes on the edge of high seaside cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. You can easily get distracted taking in the scenery, not paying attention to your speed and then a blind turn jumps out at you and then you either end up in the ocean or a Millionaires yard.

Say what you want about Tiger, but I look at it as a tragic accident. I wouldn't wish death or harm to him - that's reserved for a certain orange someone who has his property up there that my friends love to sneak on to an vandalize.

If you go over 80mph on a two-lane road, you should lose your license forever. That's just trying to kill someone.

Typical Tiger. Smash the hell out of it and don't worry about where it ends up.

Who needs a brake pedal when you have a tree?

I just have to go with he's a bad, distracted driver.  Not seeing anything else here.

His golf career is over.  So he's made a decision about that, whether he wanted to or not.

Forty miles an hour over the 45 mph speed limit.    I agree with others that he should be charged and fined.  I also agree that healing from an open leg fracture at the age of 45 with plenty of time to think about the likely end of your sports career is more of a  punishment than whatever monetary fine they could impose on him.
