"The clip captures the moment he prizes open the container, only to retreat in horror after he realises it's a septic tank for his house."

"Although he joked that he did know it was a waste tank when he started digging, he says he had only went in search of the box after a plumber recently informed him of its existence."

Fark, I really hope you're getting paid to greenlight this garbage.

TFA later mentions that he knew it was a septic tank and that he was looking for it. Now that it's uncovered, he should install a clean-out access to make it easier to pump out.

I might be wrong, but don't you want some type of access to them for the honeywagon?

Pelvic Splanchnic Ganglion: I can only imagine what 6+ years of neglect and abuse will do to a septic tank. It's a wonder he didn't have nasty backups all over his garden and/or house.

I have a family with six teenage daughters on a septic tank.  I neglected to get it cleaned out for about 10 years, figuring I'd have it done when I started seeing or noticing any issues.  Since I never did, I went ahead and had it cleaned this year.  It had some solids in it, but was otherwise fine.  Well-designed systems need only preventive maintenance, but not pumping it out for six years isn't a death sentence.

I will now have it pumped out more often, now, just to keep the solids level down - it isn't like pumping it out is all that pricey.

?

Generally, if you take care of what you flush or drain, you'd only need to pump it once every 5 or so years.  Might even get more than that out of it if you are really careful.

They are pretty maintenance-free if you are careful and they were installed correctly.

Neglect and abuse? WTF are you talking about? I've only lived in septic systems and there isn't anything special you have to do to them.

You know what. I have already re-read what I typed and disagree with it, but that mistake of mine is too good not to share.

Por que tan serioso: Jelly Bean Raider: Grew up on a horse ranch that had a septic system.
Never forget the 1st time my parents made me open the vault...

Still makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, 30 some odd years later.

Probably 35 years ago I bleached out my Grandpas drinking water cistern as it was pretty well mossed up on his cattle ranch.  Not quite a sewer but I remember, vividly, being lowered into that concrete tomb with a flash light, a wire brush, and a couple gallons of bleach.  They had to hoist me up to take a breath every few minutes. I had suppressed that.

Wow!  That's a good way to die. You need air to breathe and those bleach fumes are heavier than air and toxic.

"And you'll never believe what I found"

I'm very much not a violent person and I realize this was likely a joke but, after the last few years, this phrase immediately makes me want to stab someone.

Working for a client we found the exact same thing. Fortunately thirty years before that the city outlawed septic tanks and mandated all houses be connected to the sewer system, so that tank was long empty and didnt smell at all...
