Can you imagine if the Chinese did this to the British?

It's funny how often this argument is made when the reality is "They wouldn't give a shiat, because they aren't 1% as paranoid, sensitive, and oppressive of their own people as China is."

That's like asking what atheists would do if Westboro hung an Android phone from a Transformer and called it an iPhone.

"Nobody cares. Good luck with that."

Before they burned everything and split the Chinese embassy in Houston used to be right in the middle of a gay/college party zone called Montrose. One night me and a buddy were walking by and I knocked on the door and when the guard answered I said, "Can we look at the buffet before you give us a table...?"

We'd probably send someone along to the unveiling ceremony, who would give a speech apologising for Britain's past actions?

Oh no. Anyway.

Jolly good show sir, a completely futile gesture is exactly what's needed now to turn the tide of apathy.

Is this like when Americans say we should serve pork to Iraqi and Afghani POWs and rename their streets as GoatFarker Avenue?

It wouldn't be out of the question if the Iraqi government was waging a Holocaust on swine and goats.

I feel like that word has lost some of its power when people use it to refer to the same reeducation camps nearly every Chinese citizen went through a generation or two ago rather than the extermination camps of Poland, Rwanda, and Armenia. It's not like the Chinese are murdering them. They are just forcibly taking away their culture, which is what Mao did in his original Cultural Revolution.

If you think the treatment of Uighurs is bad, you should've seen what they did with the landlords in the 1950s and 1960s.

The story being told to Chinese citizens about Tienanmen Square is the only people killed were soldiers and police who had been tortured and burned alive by violent counter-revolutionaries.  Since there is no other information allowed, people believe it.

Have you ever once said anything bad about China here on Fark? You're always sticking up for them or whatabouting something about how bad the USA is instead.

among other things. Don't mistake my distrust of western propaganda with the love of China's governance.

I was watching this yesterday. It's amazing how fast we went from liking China to targeting them.

My arrival at my point of view was a general curiosity with China- knowing they'd be the number 1 economy within the next decade. When I was in Colombia a few years ago, I saw Chinese business people hanging out and they were quite friendly. I saw others in Ecuador, too- plus lots of Chinese restaurants.

Why would they need to, when they can simply confine them and sterilize / abort / breed them out of existence, with the bonus being that Westerners will say things like "It's not like the Chinese are murdering them!"

I would put a great deal of suspicion on any information about Xinjiang from Adrian Zenz. He is a well-known purveyor of anti-Chinese conspiracy theories and I would put as much faith behind his reports as I would Alex Jones.

whiplash and de-tangling economies, the likes of which haven't been seen since the last monarch or dictator 'decided to declare war in about 10 years.'

Did you just Ctrl+F the article to find the approved source to attack?

Because the numbers (which China admits to), witness accounts, and survivor accounts completely support what he's asserting.

"Nuh uh, he hates China" doesn't even come close to offsetting the pool of evidence that has led to massive Western condemnation and a Chinese clampdown on information getting out.

No, it's just a pattern. Any article that directly cites Adrian Zenz or his organization should be assumed suspect. Again, I've been to Xinjiang many times. There are lots of alternative sources from people without an agenda, but Western outlets have almost exclusively sourced their data from Zenz and his organization and I would treat any publication that directly cites or refers to him the same as any organization in the US that sources their data from Alex Jones.

For instance, Breitbart uses Alex Jones as a primary and secondary source of reporting on several fronts. I would caution on using any information regarding Xinjiang that relates to Zenz.

I wouldn't use Breitbart or Jones even as a 6th level source.

But it doesn't change a single ounce of what happened.  Using them as a source is a distraction.  Calling out the data being provided by them, and declaring it bad because of the source, is also a distraction.  Which is why modern media is shiat, and they shouldn't report actual news, anymore.

If there's a narrator's voice, it isn't news.
