He's a decent cop though. he's willing to work on making his force more responsive and less racist. At least if he's the guy I'm thinking of.

People in the future will look back and say there's a website call Fark and they knew long before anyone that Florida is a dangerous idiot magnet.

Why didn't we listen?!

Nope.
He left a long legacy at Austin what with cops shooting people with impunity.

This is what is known as a lateral move.

Not to mention is penchant for trying to get in front of a camera and run his mouth rather than doing anything meaningful. As someone who went through the citizen's police academy course, he is full of hot air and HPD is in dire need of resources and help.

So pretty much every police chief in the United States then.

Touche salesman. He is extra show-boaty though. Pretty much the Al Sharpton of Police Chiefs. It doesn't help he continually throws his officers under the bus willy nilly while he has officers like the one who got the no-knock on false pretense and who had a history that ending up killing a couple in Houston right under his nose. Talks a big game but I can tell you, Houston won't miss him. Our mayor might though. He lost his biggest cheerleader.

Former Austin police chief Art Acevedo announces surprising departure from Houston post

Well, it's about time!  The Houston Post shut down its printing presses over 25 years ago.  I hope the Chronicle gives him a job,

I don't know a whole lot about him, but I have spent far too much time reading comments on the Houston Chronicle's website and right-wingers despise him so he can't be all bad.

There's an interesting stat I like to point out to the haters.  The last time Houston had a Republican mayor (Jim McConn '78-'82), there were over 700 murders in a single calendar year there. To be fair, there were only 701 in 1981, but that's still a lot.  But in 2020 there were a little more than 400 - still not good, but I don't think the city has gotten any smaller so on a per capita basis it's even better and  I think it's time the GOP gave the Dems some credit or something.

I still remember the counts in the Chronicle.  There were rig counts for the oil business, but there were also body counts for the murders.

He's from California, eh?  No wonder I confuse him with a fictional character with a similar name.

We traded Alan West for Art Acevedo.

Looks like both states lost in the deal.
