The best movie to come out of Zamundan cinema in years!

I started watching it @ 5:30 the other day , I was asleep by 6:00.
Mrs Seasons was amused.
That biatch was still jumping around and barking after all these years, Who's a good girl , Shes a good girl.

I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised and thought it was a lot funnier than expected. I knew it wasn't going to be as funny or good as the original, but I was very skeptical since Eddie Murphy hasn't made a good movie since maybe Beverly Hills Cop 2.

Wesley Snipes stole the show though.

It was okay.  Pretty much what you'd expect from a sequel of a 30+ year old movie that didn't need a sequel.

I thought there were too many musical numbers in it that didn't really do anything for the plot and were just there to pad out the run time.

Doctoral Candidate Zaius: Eddie Murphy hasn't made a good movie since maybe Beverly Hills Cop 2.

My Name is Dolemite was good.

We thought it was funny.  Then we watched the first one.  The new one was better we thought.  Clean our royal genitals if you disagree.

We watched the original on Sat night and then C2A on Sunday.  If possible I strongly suggest you do so also before seeing the new one.  There were a lot of in jokes/references to the original that we probably would have missed if it wasn't fresh in our minds.  By itself, an ok/good movie. In tandem? A good use of a couple of evenings.

I'd say it was on par with Crocodile Dundee II.

It's fine. Wesley Snipes is the highlight to be sure.

Haven't finished it yet.  Started way too slowly.  I'll give it a try again this weekend maybe.

I feel like I'm insane reading these comments. Mrs. Darch and I made it... 20 minutes in? Like Mr. Seasons above, I fell asleep during it.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. Wow.

At that rate, you'll never get to John Legend signing "Queen to Be" in the credits.

In the theater I saw it in, everyone else had left by the time that came on. I always watch the credits, but I appear to be in the minority.

Sadly, I can't say that I have. Is it on Amazon or Netflix?

I watched it, McFlurby in hand!

The cameos had me groaning and laughing, especially Mtumbo...

But the highlight for me was the end credit bloopers. The kid waving the feather around and Eddie looks over in shock "hey, that's -my- thing!"

It's on Netflix.
"Dolemite Is My Name".  Best thing he's done since the original "Coming To America," probably.  Not counting the first Shrek.

I was expecting a lot of cameos, but they still managed to surprise me with the sheer number of them.  Even the twins from the club montage in the original showed up.

Had low expectations but ended up really enjoying it. Liked the nod to "Sorry to Bother You"  for Jermaine Fowler's role in that -"don't use white voice".

Two good elements: I want to see Arsenio Hall as more characters like this. If they ever make a sequel to Legend or something (god forbid) he would be great as a bog-dwelling swamp wizard/goblin.

I'm hoping Snipes is getting the second wind of his career. I've noticed him being more active lately, including a cameo in What We Do In The Shadows. He is just so charismatic and can really chew some scenery, depending on the role.

I thought it was fine. Murphy and Hall haven't missed a step in their ability to play multiple characters, and every single Wesley Snipes entrance made me laugh. I dug the funeral scene and musical number. It's fascinating seeing Eddie Murphy mature into a much more humble and generous movie star - he was essentially a supporting character in this. As other people have mentioned, Dolemite is My Name may have set the expectation level a bit high for me, but it was a fine way to kill 90 minutes.

That's what I thought too. I hadn't enjoyed a role of his that much since Willie Mays Hayes.

I just watched "Cumming Into Erica". Didn't laugh that much.

We made it a third of the way, then watched Soul and had a nice night. I continue to believe that any movie Leslie Jones touches, is poison.

Someone on RottenTomatoes said it better than me, it's a movie that celebrates how fun the original movie was.
You shouldn't go in expecting high art, but you should expect to come away with a pretty good feeling from watching actors having genuine fun, and a nagging desire to re-watch the original.

Can we at least agree that Coming 2 America is a terrible title and it should have just been Coming to Zamunda, given the plot of the movie?

Screen Engine, however, isn't allowed to disclose viewership numbers for the movies it surveys.

I'm still trying to figure out how streaming viewership is measured, so that doesn't help.

Sorry, Netflix. But Amazon has the original Dolomite movie that the Eddie Murphy movie is based on.

Prob gonna watch it Friday.

Arsenio Hall said on a podcast a few years ago, he modeled the preacher character and the barbarshop guy who is always eating, on relatives.  he had an uncle that was a preacher and as Hall said, "that character is my uncle.  there's very little exaggeration there.  I just imitated him, 'they way-uhhhhhhhhh, he would TALK-uhhhhhh, and stomp-uhhhh his FEEET when he wanted to EMPHA-SIIIIIIIIIIIZE-uhhhhh a point he just made-uhhhhhhh'."

"and i had another relative, i didn't see him very often but whenever I did, he was always eating.  always had a chicken bone in his hand, or a paper plate with something.  just  a weird thing I noticed that I used for that character."

I thought he had already passed, so enjoyed him in this. With that funeral scene and the obvious fun the cast had making this, I think it's a pretty solid last film (hope it isn't).
