It's a big shift for a dog, suddenly having so many strangers around and being in a strange place.

Poor guy. I hope he calms down back home.

This. And possibly previous bad experiences prior to being adopted by the Bidens.

Unless you get them trained early Sheppard's are who they are for life pretty much. Excellent family dogs but they won't do well around strangers who they feel is the slightest threat to them (even if they aren't) or their owner. They usually latch on to one particular person in the family the most and if not trained early even shaking their owners hand could be all it takes to defend them

My uncle had one like that.

Never bit any of us, but definitely made it abundantly clear we were all on thin ice and she was in charge. Nobody could visit without putting her in a restricted place just to be safe.

Biden should have called in that illegal immigrant dog trainer to fix things just to piss off the conservatives though. :)

Major is a rescue.  It's possible his original owner did not know how to train Shepherds properly.  It can be hard to overcome habits learned early.

100% get that, and thank you for pointing it out. my wife's Uncle rescued a pitbull/dobermann mix. which I thought was so admirable, I love people who rescue those many unfortunate mistreated pitbulls.
...until the part where he only did even worse to the poor buddy. I won't recount the story here (mostly to preserve my own psychic health) - other than to say, I was in tears for days.

some people simply should not be allowed to have dogs. or children. by which, again, I don't mean the Bidens.

Ace can be kind of a jerk but also a good boi - he's still really young (lol, 2yo 72lb "puppy") and his interactions are pretty much only with my dad, so who's even to know how he'd respond to strange people/places. so far, his very worst has been stealing half my dad's apple fritter, lololol.

We adopted a pit bull from the local rescue. At first she seemed like a chill dog but as time progressed we noticed she demonstrates fear aggression around strangers and other dogs. We were told she was a hoarder rescue but there must have been other things going on in that place she was pulled from.

She has never bitten anyone and it takes 2-4  visits from family members for her to finally trust them. Once that happens, instant best friends, pit bull hugs and lap-dog mode happens.

She still needs work and once covid isn't as dangerous as it is, we will be meeting with a behavioral therapist to help her aggression issues.

Also... could be wrong but pretty sure Weatherkiss is a lady Farker.

On topic?

Two things.

1st. Adjusting to life in the madhouse that is the WH is a hard enough transition for most people much less a dog used to a quiet life. So I hope Champ is able to return in time.

2nd. Fox News will be rehashing the "Joe is a sucky dog owner" jabs in 3... 2...

styckx: question_dj: Aww dang. Sounds like Major didn't cope with being at the white house. Hopefully they can get him working with a behaviorist and get him back to the white house.

If they've got a shiatty human, they can be downright dangerous. I've known some great GSDs, but every 'bad' one I've run into had a dick on the other end of the leash.

That's odd, because the trainers I've worked with completely disagree as they specialize in rehabbing problem dogs.

Mostly working breeds, like GSD ( my street rescue that had lived on the street the first 5 years of his life, is a gsd mix for example) and pitbulls.

Here are the trainers I work with:

http://www.caninesolutionsdallas.com/about

https://www.rehabyourrescue.com/about

Seems weird to write an animals behavior off as unsalvageable. Sully was reactive to men, leash reactive to everything, and didn't understand play. He would regularly lunge and snap at joggers when we were out on walks. Lots of people said the same thing, "oh that's just how he is."

That was 5 year ago when I rescued him. Now he loves men, loves kids, he plays with other dogs, he is friendly with other dogs, doesn't react on a leash. He recalls verbally so well, we don't walk on a leash. But he is also an angel on a leash now too.
