FFS nobody knows what "canceled" means anymore.

They got rid of it (good) because it's a racist old stereotype.

I think that's exactly what "cancelled" means now. It's why Republicans don't like it.

The fact that Disney replaced the offensive scenes while the publishers just dropped a handful of Seuss books says a lot. Disney wanted to salvage a cartoon that was still able to pull in crowds. The Seuss family could have swapped out the racial caricatures in the books with other art and descriptions too, but chose not to bother because those particular Seuss titles were already poor sellers. People are complaining that the publisher chose to stop making books that were probably due to go out of print anyway.

And it's too bad, because I would have really appreciated a cleaned up copy of If I Ran the Zoo. It's an imaginative book and my son loved it, even though I slapped stickers over some of the pictures and changed some of the wording. (I don't care if some of you think insulting stereotypes are just part of life and no big deal; I'm not raising my kid on them.) A professionally edited version would have looked a lot better.

But how will children learn history?

Literally the only way to preserve history is statues.

Just to make it even more fun, the wolf also sang about pigs in Pidgin German, clearly to play on our national hatred for Germany and to establish the wolf as the villain (in case we weren't sure).

So basically the wolf was a Nazi dressed as a Jew here, which is a hilariously bad idea.

Jim_Callahan: EdgeRunner: s. The Seuss family could have swapped out the racial caricatures in the books with other art and descriptions too

... no, they couldn't.

The artist has been dead for decades at this point, you tend not to be able to get a redraw on your art books from a decomposing corpse.

Disney films don't credit artists significantly in the first place, and thus don't have that problem.

Oh are we pretending that Go Dog Go and the Horse book and dozens of Seuss labeled books were all drawn by Mr Geisel?

Three Little Cute Anthropomorphic Common Farm Animals and the Adventure of the Inoffensive Middling Comedy Routine?

Dipshiat, this happened in the 1940s. If you're going to cry about made-up bullshiat at least make sure it didn't happen literally a lifetime ago

Does it make you sad to think that they may have hypothetically canceled your jerkoff material?

It would have taken zero effort to fix McElligot's pool and barely any for On Beyond Zebra

Noah_Tall: And the article brings up Jar Jar Binks. What farking idiot came up with the idea that he was a stereotype of blacks?  Find even one example including old movies, cartoons, or even comic strips where a black person talks like that. Whoever thinks he is a black stereotype is seriously racist to be able to see a resemblance.

Not that the character isn't offensive. He is. But it's not because he's racist.

And Jews are not filled with gas with wings to propel them

hotrod2001: If I understand correctly, they took Peter Pan, Dumbo and The Aristocats off Disney+ due to their portrayal of certain peoples.

Me personally I am eagerly awating the likes of Shapiro, Carlson and Ingraham moronsplaining why getting rid of a character named Jim Crow is liberalism run amuck.

Disney didn't remove them, it's just age-restricted for the kiddies' accounts.

stereotypes exist for reason. be enlightened and above it as much as you want, people of one feather find other feathers to hate. it is universal. the 'murican experiment of a melting pot is living proof of a large nation filled with hate, racism, bigotry, you name it. go to Japan, it's almost all Japanese. and they like it that way.
