Whenever someone says they expect people to make responsible choices, I wonder just how many people this person has interacted with.

I would rather my state was full of immigrants than Republicans.  Immigrants still believe in America...and Republicans are filth.

Report to ICE? So, you believe that the business hires/is run by illegal immigrants, and your reaction to this is to... demand that you be able to pay money to support this activity without restriction?

Not the brightest bulbs.

Because of its frightening undertones, brazen handling of literally apocalyptic issues, and dismissal of nationalist rigor, some American and Canadian public libraries went on to ban the book when it was released. The National Review, at the time of the Butter Battle publication, took great umbrage with the philosophy of Geisel's creation, and continued to smack back at The Butter Battle Book in seemingly every Seuss-related news item that cropped up for decades. Memorably, a pre-Times Ross Douthat worked in a mention of the "morally dubious" core of the book in a 2012 review of the of the film adaptation of The Lorax. In a 2004 article, John J. Miller referred to the Butter Battle spirit as a "perfect emblem of the moral equivalence that neutered so many liberals during the Cold War."

If you refuse to wear a mask these days, you're a flaming asshole. It makes me wish some restaurateur in Texas would lean into that idea... basically, treating any maskless customer as they would the masked ones, while calling them assholes the entire time.

"Welcome to Whataburger! How can we help you, asshole?"

Wow it is almost like they have no respect for a businesses choice on their own property and they just want to be aholes.

Reminds me at the beginning of CPAC when they told them to respect the hotel rules about wearing masks and they got screamed at and booed. But you want a gay wedding cake that bakery has rights!

Is this a different establishment?

I realize "thought process" is asking too much, but what is the thought process here?  Man, I love their food, but I hate masks.  I got it!  I'll threaten them and their business, and then they'll have to serve me food with no mask!  Brilliant!

I love their food so much I'm going to make them serve me out of fear!

And they view it as a compliment when they are called deplorable.

But it is the most appropriate label for a large chunk of their base.

Threatening or actaully calling ICE when you have no actaul proof of a crime, other then "they look foreign" should itself be a crime that gets you arrested for harassment based on race or place of orrigin.

2021-03-08 7:45:50 AM
This was totally expected.  In fact, just threatening to call ICE shows more restraint that I thought possible.

A conservative friend the other day was literally shouting (it was a group skype) about how Texas lets people think for themselves.  Of course, we all know that the only thinking for yourself they respect is when you agree with them.

This will get worse than threats for deportation before it's over.

actually-filing a false report can certainly be charged.

threatening to? zfc. I am only a backwoods country hyper-chicken with a pre-GED in non-law-talkin'
I ?guess? you could maybe get a restraining order against harassment, if it was possible to identify the jackwagon what done it.

"b-b-but they's looked furrin' ah swear!" / "they warn't speakin' no English the langooage of our beayootiful country!" is still cause enough in some locales :(

10 bucks says it's all community college students working there. Looks like a pretty well capitalized joint.

This phenomenon of siccing the authorities on any set of POC that excercise their rights in contravention to some white folks' opinion in whatever moment they are in is a human rights problem in America.

I run a credit union in Texas and we've had to prepare staff on how to deal with the idiots that are going to throw a fit because we're keeping the mask mandate in place.  The only thing that will come from our moronic governor's order is confrontation, as the "but mah rights" brigade is now empowered.

I've had four staff get COVID in the last two weeks, two of which required hospitalization.  It took all of two seconds to decide we're not doing away with masks and limiting the number of people in our offices.

Look how much they complain about political correctness running amok, how people need to tell it like it is, then they cry and throw tantrums about being called deplorable, clinging to guns, and Neanderthal thinking.

They are the most thin-skinned, whiney, wimpy, fragile snowflakes ever.

This.  Deplore, simply means to disapprove of something.  What's the proper adjective for wanting to shoot out of a canon into the ocean.

You know what would be common decency? Keeping your ass home and not imposing your gluttonous ass on everyone else any more than is necessary.
But this is America, and if we couldn't go out and find somebody to pick on, we might have to.....just live with ourselves. OH GOD NO ANYTHING BUT THAT

But, after such a challenging year, the reaction to their decision was disheartening, co-owner Monica Richards said: Several people sent hateful messages through social media and called the restaurant, threatening to report staffers to Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
