North American clothing manufacturers should have been falling all over themselves for months trying to design, produce and market the most stylish and comfortable masks possible.

Wouldn't you love to have a soft denim mask to go with your rugged denim jacket?
Or corduroy mask to go with your corduroy slacks?

I still can't believe we need anyone to say this. Doesn't mean that I don't accept that we do, but I'm farking baffled by all this. I know, I've had like a year to get with the incredibly stupid program.

I know the rhetorical question I'm about to pose will result in myriad different responses depending on the reader, but are you vaccinated? If you aren't in one of the "definitely first-in-line after politicians and rich people" groups, then there's still a good chance that your personal answer to that is "no".

Factory/warehouse workers in some of the most densely-populated working conditions in the country? Pretty alright chance you're fairly healthy, and so probably low-priority. Grocers and fast food workers? Bottom of the stack in every situation and likely used to it at this point, yet you see dozens to hundreds of people a day in close proximity.

So yeah. Until more people can say to themselves "Yes, I've had my two shots, and even went in for a third just for shiggles, fark 'rona. I see SARS-CoV2? I rip its spike proteins off for entertainment", then trying any more of these moronic pushes for normalcy just because some portion of the population has been vaccinated, because the potential for things to improve, should be met with unrestrained scorn.

Real Republicans weren't wearing masks, they were living off the grid, fishing in the waters their state rep made sure was polluted and hiring dogwalkers to pick up their shiat

Objection!

"Republicans think" assumes facts not in evidence...

DeSantis was playing gatekeeper and made sure his rich constituents got taken care of and then lied about it and then got contradicted by everyone?

Yup. Sounds like Florida

From TFheadline ....despite what republicans think

Most  Republican foot soldiers do not engage in the process of thinking. They have "beliefs" and  "gut feelings" which they trust. Blindly. Once their mind is set on something, they will not even consider anything that is challenging that. Some might try to twist and bend new information to make it fit into their narrow world view but most are too lazy for that and will simply call it "fake". Nothing can change that  - 500K coronavirus deaths or 5 million.  It.does.not.matter. (It COULD change if they are personally affected, but most of the time not even then).

Idiot Republican lawmakers in PA usually say one of two things.
1. Masks don't work anyway (and then when they're asked "What happened to the flu?" reply with some Jesus)
2. People are tired of the restrictions (but no word on how the virus doesn't get tired)

2021-03-08 5:55:38 AM
That's nice, anti-mask states. You know we aren't gonna visit you until this is done right?

\personally I'm not demasking in interior public places until I've got the shots....

I'm not going into states where they prioritize my tourist dollars over keeping their residents alive. This is likely to last beyond Covid-19.

2021-03-08 5:56:08 AM
Yeah, Republicans are hell-bent on killing as many people as they can before the vaccines are fully distributed.

Douchey in AZ hasn't repealed mask mandates - because he never had them, they were up to the cities, after the cities revolted against him.  Instead, he's just decided that restaurants, bars, and theatres no longer need any capacity restrictions, and schools must have in-person options at least in a week.

We're only 3-5 months short of being able to do those things *safely*, but no, we have to do it now, where we can still get a nice fourth wave going and add a couple thousand to the already awful death toll.
I hope a saguaro falls on that farkface.

The Democratic party really needs to step up and talk openly about how farking nutty Republicans have become. This is supposed to be a functional society, not a goddamn suicide pact.

We probably should stick with masking indefinitely.  It would save many lives and likely massive amounts of money that goes toward treating stuff like the flu, colds, and now C19, every year.  I know people would think that's insane, but it could make a serious difference.

The joke there is that we didn't shut everything down.

In fact, two months after that first "shut down" many industries were back at it, some at full bore including overtime (with only masks and temperature checks as CYA for the pandemic)...

Everybody panic!  Even more states are giving up on a failed strategy, and directing their limited resources towards things that might actually work.  Right when the power of mask is about to start working!  Everybody knows that it will work if we just mask up for two weeks, starting today (the previous 44 weeks didn't count, but only because somebody who wore a mask was a seekret anti-masker). Forcing untrained amateurs to wear imitation protective equipment is the key to stopping covid, and it will totally work if all the state governors pound their desks and scream repeatedly "I ORDER YOU TO DO THIS"

Oh, and look at how much better the mask states are doing than the free states!  Which are which, again?

OK, I'm being made to wear a mask, and there are less tickets available for some things. Other than that, I can go out and do exactly the same shiat I could before the pandemic right now. The push for dropping mask mandates is they never believed in why we needed them in the first place.   They don't believe Fauci, or the CDC, or the WHO, or the army of doctors and health care professionals who say they are effective, as they have been using them for decades.  But they do believe the first yahoo on Facebook who posts some long discredited quack about how ineffective masks are, or how Fauci conspired with Bill Gates to get us all microchipped, or whatever.

Maddening.

They see any change to the status quo as a giant plot against them.  Seriously.  They're already having to deal with gay marriage, and in the last year or two they've had transgender rights and Black Lives Matter thrown into the mix.  And now Juneteenth is becoming more of a thing.  Add in mask mandates, limited seating, and large events shut down, and their heads asplode,

And they see ALL of these things as a direct assault.  Planned, coordinated and executed by a shadowy someone tirelessly working to take over their daily lives.  I think most of us realize that 2021 is pretty much a wash, but 2022 should be fairly normal, given our current trajectory.  These people are convinced that we're NEVER getting rid of the masks, because once the sheeple accept something, the amorphous "they" have no reason to stop requiring it.

100% ^^^this.

non-csb:
the only reason we still have a decent stock of (before-now)inexpensive 3M N95 masks? several years ago, at our old apartment, some horrible old woman moved in down the hall and smoked like a chimbly. to the point the entire common area was infested. to the point it would come in through our door, through the outlets/fixtures. management made a couple feeble bad-faith gestures, but in truth refused to do anything about it. $mai_waifu had several serious hospital trips and (otherwise-)unnecessary doctorb visits. it was even making our cats sick. we should have farking billed them for all of that, or lawsuited, even. once I bought some boxes of those masks, it got a *little* bit better for her. poor cats, not so much.
/non-csb

people in E/SE Asia have been wearing masks outdoor daily for donkeys' years. even pre-plague-era, many US nurses and doctorbs already wore masks every single working minute on-shift. how the fark is it so hard? oh right, mah-freedumbs!

/*breathes* serenity now!
