not sure why scary tag, subs - a lot of those sound pretty good!

I haz a curious about the 'mock whitefish salad' (how in the even?! liquid smoke + seaweed + protein + ...?) - but jackfruit bbq is noms, tofu "schnitzel" seems standart (just spice the absolute hell out of it and/or make a nice sauce) - and fake chimken soup is hardly a big deal (what's truly scary? is how realistic those Edward&Sons bouillon cubes taste... esp. the not-beef, but also the chimken more than a bit.)

I've attended a vegan Seder with a bit of hesitancy. The food ended up being delicious.

I've found with vegan cuisine, the best course of action to make original dishes and not try to make food that's supposed to simulate other foods.

With just about any cuisine really.  If you aren't using the same shiat the original cooks have to work with, trying to duplicate things precisely is shaky at best.  Make something new using similar flavors and techniques?  Yeah that can work out fine - cool.

/obvious exceptions in some cases like serious gluten problem people trying to replicate basics like bread
//but as a rule it stands pretty well
///unless you absolutely must, don't lock yourself into trying to do something your ingredients, gear, and capabilities aren't aren't up to

You can absolutely gauge the average age of FARKers by looking at the number of vegan threads that are greened just so people can biatch about how much they hate vegans.  Old man yells at soy cloud substitute.

Not true!

/because the "Eww Vegans oh noes ahhhhhhhhh!" shiat seems to cross age/background/etc. barriers like it's a friggin' virus

years ago, an ex-GF invited me to my first-ever Purim. I made sure to bake up a bunch of Hamentaschen (c'mon, my Ukrainian childhood means I know how to do thumbprint/birds-nest cookies, if even in a special format)
we mostly just drank a lot, lol. to this day, I still think is the entire point of that holiday?

/bought a DVD+goatdoll of the goat-song for her bestie, that actually went over pretty well.
