(The Philadelphia Inquirer)   "Yesterday afternoon, Ted Cruz and 48 of his Republican colleagues raised their uncalloused, millionaire hands and flipped a giant middle finger to the American middle class who could have returned their party to power in Congress in 2022"   (inquirer.com) divider line

Cruz gave that defensive, almost agree speech at Republic-Con about how the GOP is not the party of the rich but of the working class blue collar worker.

Trump did this for four years and they still love him.

How the GOP blew its chance at a 2022 working-class coalition in just 10 hours, 43 minutes

No they didn't. People will just remember they got aid, they won't care who voted for/against it and they'll just keep repeating how both sides are the same.

2021-03-07 6:24:29 PM
The gop could vote to kill 1 in every 10 of their voters, and they would still get elected because Dimmycrats is the debil

2021-03-07 6:54:01 PM
Still early to tell if the Republicans blew it now or later on.

/We'll just have to wait and see.

2022 is a long time from now. I'm sure that they'll figure out a way to blame everything on the democrats

The GOP is evil. They take pleasure in causing pain for sport.

Indeed. Time is subjective. We must always be ready to vote

If the GOP succeeds in destroying the concept of Consent of the Governed, it won't matter.

2021-03-07 9:22:15 PM
Ted did that already when he boarded a plane to Margaritaville while his constituents were freezing to death.

I eagerly await the Fark Progressives' explanation of how the Democrats are the real bad guys here

They don't have to worry about anything if they just suppress the vote.

Wouldn't want one party to get too much power, you know. The best governments are split between the parties so that the agendas don't get too crazy!

I cannot believe that this is a thing that people actually think is correct.

No, evidently a fair number of people out there voted for the Shiatgibbon in 2020 solely because his name was on the check they got.

2021-03-07 9:27:42 PM
Listen, ignoring this article's bullshiat about how the GQP will somehow lose support from the stormtrumpers and closeted fascists, I wanted to ask a question that occured to me:

Let's say the catastrophishing author is more than correct, and all GQP support evaporates, leaving us with a completely democratic government in all three branches by whenever it could next occur.

Would that be... legal?

2021-03-07 9:28:04 PM
And if the Democrats pass sweeping voter reform, that American middle class can give them that giant middle finger right back.

2021-03-07 9:32:18 PM
The argument will be that it was a false choice. It wasn't a vote on "support the American middle class." It was "throw a few pennies at the middle class and also bail out irresponsible debt-laden Democrat cities."

And most Republican supporters know the talking points well enough to repeat this so often that it will become The Narrative.

2021-03-07 9:32:21 PM
And trailer parks full of broke hillbillies will say - "Thank you, Sirs - may we have another?"

2021-03-07 9:32:24 PM
You have a Senator like Grassley who as a multi-millionaire has no qualms about receiving plenty of agriculture subsidies from Uncle Sam but wants to deny the $1400 checks from the middle class because they make too much money. These guys need to be called out.

2021-03-07 9:32:41 PM
Yeah, but socialism.

Etc.

2021-03-07 9:32:52 PM
Pretty sure they got their toadie news networks and papers to talk about made-up bullshiat like Dr Seuss books and Mr. Potato Head. Their septuagenarian voters will not give two shiats about the bailout. Ten years ago they would've cried "Socialism!" but now they understand their base has no farking idea what the government does

Oh, that's a good one. I firmly expect this will be long forgotten by the midterms, like every other time the GOP lets their asshole flag fly.

They've been doing that for years , yet they still get voted into office ..

Forgot the "buys horrible covid+ illegals ten mansions" slice.

2021-03-07 9:38:25 PM
BS.  The 49ers were hard at work in campaign ads saying they pushed through all that money and the Democrats tried to stop them.  They were drafting letters to go with each check that said they were totally responsible for the money in their hands.

Ted is flying back to Cancun to tape himself handing out checks instead of water to needy Houstonites.  The prop water truck will now say Free Money from Ted on the side.  The same woman will be there, her trunk open to receive the$1400 per adult and whatever for each kid.  Ted will be shoveling the one dollar bills into her car.

If you look carefully on the truck, there's a Cruz for president 2024 sticker.

The Tories in the UK have been running the same playbook for the past few years, too. But it's all basic populism. Appeal to the base, rile them up over issues that don't actually matter and you've got a bunch of motivated voters. Just listen to what the party says, don't watch what it actually does.

2021-03-07 9:40:06 PM
If GOP voters voted out of self interest they wouldnt be GOP voters, this won't matter to them

Probably preventing deaths or something.

2021-03-07 9:45:21 PM
The American People need to be reminded, time and time again, and most importantly, the days leading up to every election, that the GOP gave the richest people in the world $2 TRILLION in the form of tax cuts, while denying the more deserving citizens a simple helping hand to get through the pandemic - under the bizarre notion that the former somehow helped our country (and was demonstratably a failure in actually helping our economy), but the latter was fiscally irresponsible.

2021-03-07 9:46:18 PM
American voters don't pay any attention to this shiat. They pay attention to billboards and TV & internet ads that run two weeks before an election.

The window for Republicans to create a multiracial working-class party closed this weekend

I'm not sure it was ever open. Even a crack.
