(Redbook Magazine)   Some brave soul tried all nineteen current flavors of Pop-Tart to come up with the definitive ranking of best to worst. Topping the list is, well... I actually can't argue with that one   (redbookmag.com) divider line

Personal upside to COVID: I swore off Pop-Tarts for good.

How big a city do you need to live in to find all those flavors?

Full disclosure: I smoke a ton of weed.
That said, I hadn't had Pop-tarts in years and picked a box up on a whim last week.  They were "red velvet cake" flavored (not in the article) and maybe it was the aforementioned weed, but dang were they excellent, and tastes very much like red velvet cake.

So it tastes like cake? Protip: Red Velvet is a color, not a flavor.

It's generally a chocolate cake.  So chocolate with cream cheese frosting.

And Cherry ranked FAR too low.

It has been a LONG time since I've had a pop tart, but I will admit, cinnamon is a pretty solid choice. Controversial take: plain, unfrosted strawberry was my favorite.

I have never in my life enjoyed red velvet cake. but last night, my food delivery included a surprise unsolicited slice, gratis. I told the wife that she or her mother should have it.

this morning, she took a couple bites and told me that I absolutely had to try it at least once. holy-fark, was it ever good!!!

yes, I know the thing looks like Carrie made it, but maaaaan that cream cheese frosting!

Cake can come in a variety of flavors. There is a general flavor(s) that is associated with the term red velvet cake.  That essentially makes it a flavor on its own.

I think about 10 years ago we had an event and Pop*Tart was a sponsor.  So, poptarts.  Well, I cooked one to directions in the toaster oven and well I can't say it was horrible but it didn't look like the package at all.

S'Mores Poptarts are puke.

Chocolate frosted, strawberry frosted, and as I was reminded by this article and thread, good ole plain strawberry.

Haven't had any in a while but a couple years back I was eating an unhealthy amount of chocolate frosted Poptarts. They're just so good!

Never really liked brown sugar and cinnamon; they were just too dry.  The others were okay, though.

How is Redbook still a thing? My Mom used to get it in the mail along with Woman's Day and McCalls.
I'm not sure if it's nostalgia or panic at my oldness!

I used to know a Canadian who would always ask Americans coming to visit to bring boxes of the cinnamon PopTarts, because for some reason they were unavailable in Canada.

/cinnamon and cherry FTW

I haven't had a tart since the 70s, I preferred the plain ones slathered in butter, Yum

2021-03-07 1:59:11 PM
Missing from the list: The Maple Bacon flavor were surprisingly not bad, and the pumpkin pie version was actually pretty good.
I don't buy them often, but generally I get the chocolate or cinnamon. Blueberry edges out Cherry ever so slightly. The Mrs prefers the S'mores.
Dammit, now I want a poptart.

It's actually chocolate with so much red dye that it alters the flavor

I enjoy a plain Pop Tart that I can rub with a stick of butter as soon as it is pulled from the toaster.

I won't turn down a frosted one though.

I'm partial to the unfrosted blueberry. They're hard to find, though.

I found that if you make a tiny hole in the icing packet, there will be enough for adequate coverage. Opening them along the provided cut line just gives you a glop that precludes said adequate coverage.

Finding an unfrosted Pop Tart is like finding an unexploded Pinto.

...or an expired Twinkie.

One of the sad things about living in the uk is we don't get many pop tart flavours here.

Strawberry and the one that's like Oreos. That's it.

Some supermarkets have the others in their 'American imports' section, but I'm not paying £10 for a box of pop tarts. Ever.

IIRC they used to have more filling and thicker frosting, thus less dry.

Pop tarts are gross given their nutritional content.

Nothing with that many calories should taste so dry and unsatisfying.

Obviously to each their own. :)

I'll buy them a couple times a year, specifically the cookies & cream ones.  Absolutely nutrient non-existent but so delicious.

I liked the all chocolate ones, brown sugar, smores, and blueberry.  I saw some new pretzel crust ones, but haven't tried them.  As Smackledorfer mentioned, I think they're a bit underwhelming for the calorie cost.

I like the Kodiak cake mix for muffins.  Their chocolate mix is tasty and is pretty high protein too, which is nice for breakfast.

My favorite of all is the limited edition Jolly Rancher watermelon flavor.  Those were damn good.

Two regular favorites: cinnamon and strawberry - preferred unfrosted, but will go with the frosted if no other options.

We used to do that with Eggos. We used to be able to get blueberry ones here and we'd put Lucerne blueberry ice cream in the middle. Yes, we were high.
