Seems that the majority of people are supportive of restaurants deciding to keep the masks. But as the Restaurateur suspects, I'm sure there will be a contingent of people going out without masks expressly to make a point and or scene.

Some people absolutely Love to be assholes.

Funny how the people who claim 'freedom' to choose for themselves simultaneously don't believe in the right of business owners to have the freedom to set their own rules.

I think that it shows all their BS has nothing to do with 'freedom' and everything to do with them being spoiled selfish man-children.

Yeah but they'd lose their shiat and cry victim if the tables were turned.

It's times like this restaurants should have two sections, like back in the smoking days. It's be just as useless, but would make it easier for the restaurants to manage their customers.

Texans who care about masks and distance will just have to take a page from similarly inclined Floridians, and only eat outdoors, or get takeout or use delivery services. It's unfortunate, but you just have to cede the indoors to the anti-maskholes. I feel sorry for the restaurant owners and staff.

Kinda hard to eat or drink with a mask on. Makes me wonder what this is really all about (ok, not really).

Also, at least now it will be possible to eat outdoors, as opposed to summertime when you might as well be eating on the surface of the sun.

And also rinse the dine-in plates in bleach just before plating their order. To keep everything clean, of course.

Floridian here (Pt. Charlotte to be exact). I've been eating out lately.  I just eat outside or eat at off hours when the restaurant isn't crowded. I'm being safe and supporting local businesses.  I just avoid businesses that don't follow social distancing guidelines and/or don't require masks for staff.

Sadly this does not surprise me.   Businesses in the areas where foolish GOP governors have dropped mask mandates are going to face ever increasing pressure to drop their own from asshat would be customers.

Also this patchwork mess of  mandates/no mandates is why i wish we could have a nationwide mandate.   Mind i am not sure if such a mandate would be legal with out congressional backing and right now the GOP would fight tooth and nail against it.

Even if everything aligned to get it in place there would be such push back from state and local governments in many GOP governed areas that it likely would not work any better than what we have now.    The best shot it had would have been if we had a responsible adult GOP POTUS when it started instead of the marmalade messiah and a GOP led national mask was put in place.  That might have actually worked,  Now under Biden with the GOP being as partisan as ever? no a chance of it doing anything to improve things.

Yah. This.

Despite our governor's proclamation that 'mask's are no longer mandated' here in Iowa, most businesses are taking a stance stating otherwise before entry.

That is of course in just major metro areas, whereas rural businesses are like:

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

IIRC there was no mandate or federal law for the drinking age to be 21. They just said they would withhold highway funds. Texas sure seems to enjoying that disaster relief. Seems like Biden could do something similar.

Let's start a petition of anti-maskers, including a legally binding waiver that signatories believe masks are ineffective at preventing the transmission of germs and therefore decline to allow surgeons to wear masks while operating on them. Circulate the signed petition to hospitals so they can save a few bucks on PPE when anti-maskers roll into ER. We will find out how sincerely they believe masks don't work when they get get wheeled into the operating room and realize they can identify the faces of the people about to cut into their guts.

Yeah, it would have been very nice if we had some level of cohesive National leadership a year ago when all of this could have been avoided.

The same people who go ballistic insisting that businesses have unlimited authority to discriminate against LBGT people and refuse service to them. . .flip out at the idea that those businesses would refuse service to THEM if they simply don't wear a mask.

They are all about letting businesses refuse service to whoever. . .as long as it isn't them, as long as it's people they don't like.

wish I'd saved the link from one of the 17 brazillion other Tex-Ass threads, but apparently some states (including Texas) do consider spreading illness to be a form of assault.

although I imagine the castle/stand-ground defense stuff really only breaks down to:
- what color are you?
- what color are they?
in the end.

restaurants can refuse service to anyone, and I don't think moran is a protected class (yet)

not sure about the legal cromulence, but why not charge a 100% moran-fee. or even 2-3x that. and automatic gratuity to boot.

"Bokros said he prefers not to wear a mask and favors establishments that give customers the choice. But if a restaurant he visits regularly is still requiring them, he'll respect its wishes.
"We'll patronize places that have put the responsibility in the hands of the people," he said. "We're not going to boycott anybody because they're still requiring a mask."

Well there are a couple of sentences showing why you need mask mandates.  It is a "hey you should trust people to keep themselves safe, we don't need no government getting in the way of this."  to "Oh hell no I don't want to wear a mask, who cares if others get sick"

If the are so adamant about no masks, well the respirator for the anesthesia is a mask. Let them have their surgery mask free.

Here in the nearly plague free land downunder, masks on trains is about 50% on the late night trains out of of the city. We had a 5 day lockdown a short time ago and the state has no problem doing it again and again.  They recently reduced the mask requirement but it seems like there is carry on effect.  If you don't have to wear you mask at your desk at work, then people also don't wear it on the train.  The current rules do require possession of a mask when out of your home but you only have to wear it in on public transport and in shops.  You need one in a restaurant if you aren't seated. In bars half the tables will be open and the bar stools aren't.  They need to stop screwing with the rules ever few days, just go with a mask when outside for the next few months and be done with it.  This thing isn't going to go away until months after most people get vaccinated so the damn masks should be here to stay for a long time.

The local fiber plant the makes the materials for surgical masks is once again making pillow fibers again which says good things about the supply and demand problems they used to have.

Passing budget items is up to Congress, not the POTUS.

It's not hard though, if you don't want to wear a mask, you can go elsewhere.  It's a free country that way.

I'm just happy my 80+ year old parents managed to finally finagle their first Covid shot and are scheduled for the next one in a few weeks.
