Blue Bloods is a great show for a displaced New Yorker who misses the city scenery.

As for the writing... well... I like the scenery.

Let's just say that if all the characters were sanitation workers and the series was about dramatic trash collection it would be about the same for me.

Ah the show where a family of corrupt hipocrite hypocrites runs the PD and the DA. The worst family on TV, with bonus overcompensating Donnie Wahlberg as basically the ONLY cop in NYC.

I take exception to that. Nick Cage doesn't dye his hair. He wears a piece.

Blue Bloods is insufferable crap. I don't know if they do this all the time because I only tried to watch it a couple times but at the end of the episode they all sit around the dinner table talking about how awesome they are for being cops.

Bob Keeshan played the Captain from 1955 to 1984 on CBS. He also played the original Clarabell the Clown on the Howdy Doody television program

And there's more but I caught myself diving down a Wiki hole and I'm sorry.

CBS is psychotic with their cop shows. It's like half their lineup. And in like five of them, one of them is an ex-Navy SEAL. And then there's "SEAL Team". Their shows make Top Gun look like an anti-recruitment film.

Nailed it. The conversation usually goes something like:

Tom Selleck, Donnie Wahlberg, and that blonde dude: "Being a cop is great!"

The women in the family: "What if we weren't so mean while arresting people?"

The men, again: "Are you kidding? We're cops, we're supposed to do that. We put our lives on the line every day for the opportunity to be a dick to someone. How dare you."

The patriarch: "I remember back in my day..."

Tom Selleck: "Yes, Dad, we know."

I only know this because I have relatives who leave it on in the background when there's a marathon. As with most cop shows, after about two-three episodes, the formula is obvious as hell.

There was one episode I watched while with my parents, because my mom loves the show, where the plot was basically that Tom Selleck had to keep the "evil" inspector general guy/lady from investigating some of his police officers.  His argument was basically you don't get it because you're not a cop.
I think one of his kids at the dinner table told him he needed to go along with it and he told some stupid cop analogy story to show them how wrong they were and cops should never be investigated.
It took everything I had not to scream at the tv and tell my parents never to watch this insanity.

Boston Legal. The show where Shatner being an asshole actually paid huge dividends. Honestly it felt like he was just playing himself.  Which is probably why it worked so damn well.
