For profit, non-scientific zoos seem like a terrible idea..They are no more than side shows.
They don't exist to protect and serve the interest of the animals, just to make money for some owner.
Maybe I have been spoiled in that I grew up with the St. Louis Zoo as my local zoo..It has always
been free and always about the animals and science.

I remember back in the neighborhood, at maybe 7-10, kids would try to say their dogs were part wolf. They at least looked more like wolves than this dog.

(Had an idiot uncle, an adult, that got himself a critter he claimed was part wolf. It bit him, quite badly. He probably had it coming.)

The sort of person who wants a part-wolf is probably the exact sort of person who shouldn't have one.

You are somewhat right from my experience.  The hybrids we've seen come through the rescue tend to fall into two camps.  The more dog-like personalities can make very good pets.  But about half turn out "creepy" and either panic or run and hide whenever exposed to someone/something new.  Assuming most people that want a wolf dog do so because they like the idea of a fierce protector they will rarely find that in either of the two variants.

So then they turn to huskies.  Which are often fragile drama queens when kept as pets.  So those also have a high percentage that get dumped into the rescue system.

We have a buncha Huskies, a good dozen of them (all rescues and we have the means, space, time and experience to properly take care of them), and I frequently get asked "is that a wolf/part wolf/close to a wolf?"
If you're having trouble to differentiate a Husky from a wolf, you've never seen a wolf in real life.
It's like looking at a '63 VW Beetle and wondering if it's a Testarossa.

Yup, pretty much that.
I've known one person who owned a wolf-hybrid and was actually a responsible owner.
The rest, usually have a Husky/Malamute mix, wear a t-shirt that says "I'm a badass wolf tamer" and will tell you, that their backyard bred mutt is 72% wolf.

My wife is black and has claimed from day one she was part cherokee.  She insisted on a DNA kit for Christmas and well she's just black now.

I used to have a wolfdog that I got off someone who really couldn't handle her and realized it way too late. She was mostly a total sweetheart, but she'd jump me every time I came home from work and I had to wrestle her to the ground.

People forget every dog is a wolf. Even pugs.

My dog is a cruel mockery of a wolf. The sad part is that in his dreams he probably imagines himself chasing down large prey in a snowy wilderness. Then he wakes up and yaps when people pass the house.

Wolves would have been great pets before there were any chains or cages, when nothing would stop one that wanted to leave and form its own pack from doing so. Where it could compete to be the ruling, breeding pair. The rest stayed home and the most submissive could breed, generation after generation.
It isn't a good idea to go by appearances.  Half-coyote mixes can be floppy-eared cute mutts that tend to hide under beds and behind couches when company comes by; there was an animal shelter that made an exception to their "never make an exception" rule and adopted out instead of euthanizing a stray, obviously almost pure wolf because it was so incredibly docile and calm and trainable that it could be a house dog and wouldn't go insane alone on a chain.  It turned out after a genetic test that both of its parents had been 50% German shepherd and 50% greyhound, possibly siblings.  Now it gets to do zoomies around the big dog park with the other pets.
