Kate Mulgrew reprising her role as Captain Kathryn Janeway

Did she get demoted or is this a prequel because she was an admiral in Nemesis

I hope it's not too dumbed down for kids. I'd like to see a serious animated Star Trek show soon.

Voyager was a pretty self contained story. Are they giving her another ship? She might have a hard time finding a crew.

I'm expecting it to be aimed at a very young audience, even more than the old cartoon was. Nothing wrong with that, but I don't expect it to be for me.

I'm cautiously optimistic about the Pike show. I hope it's good, because I want some decent Trek and Disco is a farking mess. Lower Decks is fun enough for what it is.

Are there very young Star Trek fans? I mean I was but I wasn't exactly normal. They wouldn't even have been born when V'ger was airing. Sure there's streaming and maybe their parents make them watch it but that tends to make kids hate things even more.

I'm guessing this show is their attempt to hook them young.

TOS, and even TNG, had a broad enough appeal to hook younger audiences to some extent, but Trek hasn't really made an attempt at that since then.

If you are in a Trek show that nobody liked, the continuity does not matter.

I have no idea who they think is going, "Oh Boy! More Janeway!!!"

No one liked Nemesis either. Actually all the TNG movies were bad. The Borg one was the best but I'm grading on a sharp curve.

It's going to be a reimagining of the episode Threshold from the point of view of the lizards.

First Contact was a decent space action movie. It was terrible as a Trek movie though. But I enjoy it.

Heh. That's the only episode out of all the series, including the cartoon, that had its "canon" status revoked.

Yeah, "bad" is a strong word. It wasn't like it was Trek V: The Search for God. Or The Motionless Picture: Where NOMAD Has Gone Before.

People were pissed that the Borg had a queen but I wasn't. No matter what they called her in the credits, she was more like when Picard became Locutus, more of a mouthpiece for the collective. If they didn't have a character like her, it would have just been a zombie movie. And she was strangely hot.

The Queen thing was less of an issue than Picard going full action hero.

He had his Die Hard episode in TNG in Starship Mne, and it did it without his character seeming way off from normal.

I was just talking about the action hero bit. I barely remember Insurrection, except that Picard sided with the wrong people because he wanted some MILF action. I think I only saw it once in the theater. 1999 was a great year for movies. But not because of that.

That's fortunate, they'd have to explain the holographic Doctor. I suppose he could re-write himself to age normally.

I'm only familiar with her VO work from the Dragon Age series (where she's fantastic as Flemeth/Mythal).  As to Janeway returning, I hope they make her character more consistent.  I read an interview with Mulgrew where she said that after a few season she played Janeway with the subtext that she had an undiagnosed mental condition because it was the only way she justify some of her actions to herself.

And just because -

A lot of people. Every Trek is someone's Primary Trek, for whatever reason. Maybe it's the one that was airing new episodes when they were of a certain age. Maybe it's the one they first stumbled on. 10 years from now you will run across people who claim Discovery as their defining Trek. Voyager is low on my list, but there are a lot of fans and I can't say they are wrong.

Money, sure, but with an animated series a season's worth of work is what? A couple of days? A week? It's not a bad way to earn a couple bucks.

Kate is a great actress whom I've seen in a few productions on stage as well as T.V (Great character in OITNB).

Voyager, for the most part - was not a shining moment for her acting skills.

She's from my S.O's home town of Dubuque, IA and has been known to "make appearances", but we've yet to see her when in town.

I don't know why you think it would require a lot of money to do this job?

I'd do voice over work for minimum wage!

And I assume if you're voicing a character YOU played live action there won't be as much "directing" involved

Voiceover work can be pretty brutal.  There was actually a big thing a few years back about actors that did VO for video games having labor issues because of work conditions.

Man, that's such BS because that could've been a great B grade action franchise.

Anyway, Lower Decks was so much fun. I had zero expectations for that one and every episode was a treat. If that's the level a Star Trek cartoon is on, I 'm here for it.

I hate callbacks/fan service. Discovery literally thrived on them.

It's a big universe, Star Trek. Don't do what Star Wars does and run everything through the same group of people. That makes the universe seem small.

Maybe they're retconning parts of Nemesis?  Because while she should've been an Admiral, she should not have been promoted before, and directly over, Picard!

I still want a DS9 sequel series.

I would be really curious to see how Avery Brooks would act these days. He was very much a theater actor on the original run and interviews since then look like he's gone full artsy Actor since then.
