Came for Max Headroom reference, leaving satisfied.

I've gotten into codemiko the last month or so. She can be really entertaining or she can be a bit cringey.

But I wonder if her success will spawn an entire generation of more and more sophisticated v-tubers. Someone somewhere will develop a complete v-Tuber kit and half the streamers will be avatars.

You clearly don't know about VR chat.

That's probably for the best. It's furries, otaku, and screaming pre-teens, all expressing themselves.

As always, what's old is new again, at least for the not well informed, and the rest of us will continue working on evolving new stuff you can all catch up to in a decade or so.

Would I say V-tubers have come a long way since 1979?

Yeah, probably; but most of the elements were already there.

I don't really care for live streams, they tend to be 90% boring with only a few standout moments of true entertainment. That's why I stick to compilation videos on youtube that pick out the best parts. I've seen some of her stuff that way. She can be funny and self aware, which is nice. I've also seen what she looks like behind the mocap, and she's very easy on the eyes.

That's nice, but the there are also gems like this:

That's terrifyingly creepy.

Not the shiat mouthed video game character ripping Space Ghost, that's fine and she's funny.

My problem is with the mute button and forced dancing and all the camgirl/artificial girlfriend play with her viewers.

Just farking creepy. They're children, paying a woman to act out fantasies.

That's not odd to you?

I can't say much about codemiko, the only Miko I watch is Sakura Miko. But I think the article is not wrong she is on the front wave of a larger thing.

I think that the vtuber thing is going to be a permanent, steady part of entertainment for the future, and VR will probably also play a bigger part (as the cost comes down especially). What I posted above is just one example of the sort of things coming out of this scene. On the twitch side, you have the entire Vshoujo group, Snuffy, and others. You have much more amateur players as well, which is essential because some of them become the monster successes of the future.

Just the example of Hololive is impossible to ignore - it was one thing when Gura was the only one with a million plus subs but now it's a fair sized group. It's getting bigger worldwide and not going away. That's what the talented, artistic people are doing, and what they do leads the rest of the culture. Hololive just organized and focused a trend that has been growing for years.

About the only thing I find annoying about people like her is their constant complaint about not being able to find time for other things. They portray the situation as if taking time off or limiting their streaming means their loss of everything they built. Then she talks about the stuff she got done during her suspension.

She was suspended and after coming back her operation is bigger than ever. Think about that. Doesn't that prove that spending all that time streaming is her choice? Was it impossible to schedule her streams so she'd have break times which enable to get something to eat and drink, or use the bathroom? If an unplanned suspension couldn't derail her train, how is taking some time off or limiting her daily streaming hours going to hurt?

If you call in to work sick or with an emergency (e.g. unplanned suspension), your boss is going to forgive you not being there (to a point). If you call in and admit that you'd just rather be doing something else, they're going to be miffed.  For people whose business is being popular, the viewers/followers are their bosses.
It my not be fair, and it can be managed to a certain extent if done well, but it's a tightrope.

Fear not, as there's nothing remotely cool about this to begin with.
