So it's really Coming 1 America?

I can't wait. I want to watch it while I eat breakfast.

I noticed that. Still haven't watched.

Then I started reading reviews ...

Reviews have it as average.  Serviceable sequel mentioned in a number of them.  Pretty much what sequels are and always have been.  You were expecting more?  Less?

RT has critic score of 52% and audience score at 44%. That ain't good.

"Serviceable sequel" is a good description. It's far from an awful movie as so many sequels are. Fans of the first one will enjoy seeing a lot of callbacks and Eddie actually seems to be having fun again, which is good, but it doesn't really stand on it's own. I'm glad it went to Prime and I didn't pay extra to see it in a theater.

Even Leslie Jones made me laugh, which is unprecedented.

Now I can feel bad for Eddie one day early.

It was okay and really well cast, even for someone who usually can't stand Tracy Morgan. I really liked the guy who played Akeem's son. But man oh man.... how much fun was Wesley Snipes having?

She was the best part of the 2016 Ghostbusters disaster, despite what the trailer led us to believe.

Her commentary was the best part of GoT Season 8

Despite the clear temporal superiority of the East Coast of the US, Amazon stubbornly refuses to accept it as the default time by which all must be measured.

A.K.A. Amazon uses UTC. They didn't drop it early, they dropped it at midnight. But midnight UTC = 7pm Eastern.

It was okay.  Not good, not terrible.  Just okay.  It had like 5 full blown musical numbers which padded the runtime without actually advancing the narrative but the cast was solid.

Then why don't my packages show up 6 hours earlier? 😬

I tried but didn't laugh once in the first 30 minutes so I stopped. Maybe I"ll try again. So far, tired, slow and unfunny.

What's with all these movies and TV show sequels that should have been made 10-20 years ago (if at all)? I mean Frasier? Really?

But do Peaches and her beatboxing twin make a return? That is the really important question.

Yes.

Will watch if only because I loved the first one so much (is John Landis still on Hollywood's shiatlist or not?  It's hard to keep up these days), and also looking forward to seeing local locations where it was filmed - one being what was Evander Holyfield's mansion, now owned by rap mogul Rick Ross, that's down the road from where I live.

But going in with low expectations - have a few puffs first and a cocktail or two while watching. Not expecting Godfather 2 with this one.

Tried watching last night and fell asleep about 45 min in.  It's pretty terrible, but no more terrible than I was expecting.  IT still has its moments and I'll attempt to watch the rest over the weekend.  The barber shop stuff still works.

If he's as funny as he was in Dolemite, it might make this one worth watching.

Count me in that it wasn't a peak of cinema but I'm glad it exists and I enjoyed my 100 minutes watching it. I do wonder if it will be James Earl Jones last on screen role at this point. Arsenio and Snipes were highlights for me. Do wish they had gone R rating though

I will probably watch it this weekend, but it sucks that this sequel is PG-13.

What's next? A sequel to Trading Places that isn't rated R?  Ugh.

In the UK - The first Terminator was rated 18. Terminator 2 came out 7  years later and was rated 15, meaning any 15 year old who could legally see the sequel then had to wait 3 years to watch the original. Because that's how that works.

It was pretty weak. I expected it to be stupid, so I watched it high hoping it would be funnier that way. Nope. The only part I really liked was the introduction of the bride to be featuring Prince's song Get Off. I might watch it again later without the weed and see if it's actually better that way. I sort of doubt it, though.

The first Terminator was an 80's film, and thus had the nudity required of all 80's action films.

A sadly underrated movie. Murphy deserved an Oscar nomination for it.

I got shiat on for predicting it would be a stock standard sequel in an earlier thread.

Its fatal flaw will be that it wants to be lovable before it wants to be funny.

2021-03-05 1:03:32 PM
It wasn't good. They should change the name to Coming to America for 2 Min. Wesley Snipes should do more comedy roles, he was great and was clearly having a lot of fun.

But will it bring back the trauma of watching it on a plane repeatedly as you circle Paris because of until you have to divert to London because of fuel ran low? They just kept restarting it. We were stuck on the tarmac at Heathrow for 8 hours. Not allowed off the plane because the flight wasn't cleared to disembark in England.

Last two times it looped through, I watched it in French even though I don't know it. Ran out of batteries for my walkman, and only had a couple books with me. Stuck in a middle seat. Since the flight originated out of the US, no booze for me @18 although I could drink at bars in New Orleans.

After the proper amount of medication was applied I enjoyed this a bunch, but I loved the original so I might be biased. It was worth it for Wesley Snipes alone, like a crazed Idi Amin with Kayne's fashion sense.

I put it on for background at work. I would not see it in a cinema but I am finding fun bits of silliness. I did not know about Morgan Freeman's role in it.

It is also clearly very self-aware as a film. The original had a lot of tongue-in-cheek humor but King Joffe's wake was over-the-top silliness.

The Terminator has a higher body count (not counting the nuclear devastation scene in T2, but I do not count it because it was a dream). T2 has nothing like the police station shootout.

Yeah but they all just got shot. Lots of people get shot on network TV. In T2 a dude got a sword through the mouth.

Judging by the reactions of the folks in this thread, I am going to thoroughly enjoy this tonight with a 6 pack.
History has shown me that Fark movie/music threads are almost exactly the opposite of my personal opinions and it seems this is rating from eh to bleh on the fark-o-meter, so it will be good for a chuckle.

Not everything has to be some high brow Adam Sandler film ya know.

R.I.P.

And he's in that exclusive club along with Lance Hendrickson...killed by a Terminator, a Xenomorph, and a Predator.
