The GOP's still going to find a way to justify doing whatever the f*ck they want regardless. Even if Hillary were to start serving multiple life sentences for her emails like what they seemingly wanted, for instance.

Cuomo is an ass. He never should have won re-election once, let alone twice.

It's not about whatever scandal du jour. He just never should have been governor & we should vote him out or be should resign for that reason.

There are two types of Lawful Stupid paladins.

The first type breaks out the +5 Sword of Absolute Righteousness when a fellow party member attempts to cross the street against a flashing red hand, because THIS ISN'T 'NAM, DUDE, THERE ARE RULES! .

The second type hems and haws about whether to issue a Formal Inquiry into whether or not it would be Appropriate to issue a Proclamation of Evilness and Call for a Committee that could, if the Bipartisan Committee achieves consensus, call for a Vote to impose Official Sanction against every individual member of the seventy-four-million-strong army of Orkz, because WE LIVE IN A SOCIETY AND BEING LAWFUL MEANS THAT EVEN OUR IMPLACABLE ENEMIES MUST HAVE THE FULL RIGHT TO DUE PROCESS

Both types of Lawful Stupidity eventually result in their entire party being massacred.

I don't know Zeldin but if you think Reed has a chance of winning that's hilarious.

I seriously doubted Cuomo would have won the 2022 primary before all this came out. Maybe they'll nominate someone a little further left of Cuomo in 2022, though "A little to the left of Andrew Cuomo" includes Joe Manchin & Joe Lieberman.

we lost Al Franken for bland and baseless nothings (fully-up-for-interpretation-state-fair-photo-opp-maybe-accidental-tooshy-squeeze?). and learned nothing.

and to the GOP it means nothing. nothing but that we are weak when we try to act on genuine moral principle......

we lost neera tanden for "slightly snippy, yet always true, tweets. by a female. a brownish female....." after  trumpo's DECADES of fully false, and viciously dumb, and hatefully derogatory tweets. and learned nothing.

so let's let is play out. FULLY out.

franken ASKED for a formal senate investigation of his "offenses" which he never got.

cuomo offered a half-assed "sorry if you were offended by me being me. i'm dumb." apology. so far.

but let's let it play out.....

I avoided rushing to judgement on Cuomo. We know he's been targeted because he was such a contrast to Trump during early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. But I must confess, he went well beyond doing the right thing and telling people the truth, he actively sought out a sort of celebrity status with his daily press briefings. I found it obnoxious and irritating.

I've now seen enough of the sexual harassment allegations to be convinced he's a creep who should lose his job. Somehow, I don't think he'll resign. He'll keep fighting. And the GQP will make a cause of him. Cynically, I say let him continue to be a lightning rod to take up their energy. For now, I just can't really bother to care much.

The difference is that unlike Cuomo, Franken was a staunch defender of Democratic Party values. Unlike Cuomo, Franken actually did a bunch to pass good legislation, & unlike Cuomo, Franken did a lot to help out the people he represented.

Cuomo admitted that his behavior was wrong, and that he was sorry. that's not really a half-assed apology.  admitting he was being dumb is absolutely admitting he farked up.

I happened to have been watching the 24 hours news live at the time (a rarity) and so saw it.  he actually seemed to feel bad.

Get rid of Cuomo if he doesn't meet your party's ethical standards, and don't waste time and energy giving a sh*t what the other party does about it. The point isn't to impress a bunch of sleazebags; the point is adhering to your own standards because they are yours.

Maybe she learned a lesson from turfing Franken without giving him the investigation he asked for and deserved?

Either that or she's afraid of Cuomo.

If NYers want to vote him out or primary him that's their call.

If Dems want him to just step down they are morons.

It doesn't suppose to mean something to the GOP. Sexual harassment or racism is not ok just because you are a democrat.

Now with that said, it doesn't mean anyone who makes any mistake means they need to be forced from office or never hold office ever again.

There is only one answer to the filth that is republicans and their "shield of lying shiat" christianity.  Kick them in the teeth and treat them like the filth that they all are.  There is not a single republican that is morally above john wayne gacy.  Their christian proxies are far worse.

Treat them all like the rancid meat that they all are and get on with life.

Perhaps some rotting chunk of meat can speak up for them, but I know that can never happen.

American politics is already in the mud. We better get dirty if we want to prevent the facists taking over. I'm all right with imperfect people in roles that push us in the right direction.

Cuomo's behavoir is boorish and dumb, but the degree of it is not criminal and the public shaming (and its political damage it inflicts) of Cuomo is a form of punishment in itself.

There are plenty of people on the left, many of them right here on Fark, who will insist that Dems should be better than Republipukes because reasons. I agree that there are reasons to dump bad leaders, but a hand on someone's ass is not it.

Otoh, if Cuomo put his hand on MY ass, I'd have no compunctions about slapping his face, in public, and I don't care if he's a mayor (or a governor, or a president or what have you) because I value the integrity of my person more than "making a scene" or "losing my job" or whatever lies people tell themselves in place of having a spine for once.

Should men keep their hands to themselves? Yes, absolutely. But women, it's time we stopped waiting to be allowed to stand up for ourselves, and just did it.

2021-03-05 3:18:07 AM
I guess Cuomo isn't as connected as Biden is because I haven't heard the media focus entirely on the credibility of Cuomo's accusers, dragging their names through the mud and combing through every public statement they've ever said.

2021-03-05 3:25:19 AM
I have no idea how things will turn out for Cuomo but there needs to be an investigation first.  So they can get on with it and we can wait.  He's clearly an asshole and nobody needs to tolerate sexual harassment.  But some due process is warranted. This would be far better than the way Senate democrats fell for the right wing hit job on Al Franken.  A political hit that was endorsed by the author of this article, the incredibly stupid Jeet Heer.

This notion that voters, in large numbers, care about which party is the more virtuous is beyond idiotic.  Most people are sharp enough to figure out that most of these people are often self-dealing sharks.  Voters make their choices for completely different reasons.

There is  a man who attempted to forcibly rape a teenager occupying a stolen seat on our Supreme Court bench. A prominent member of Congress turned a blind eye the the sexual abuse of several schoolboys. A man who peeped on teenagers in dressing rooms, made jokes about sexually assaulting women, and palled around with the world's most notorious pedophile, they made him president. As president, he then tried to make a US senator out of an insanely homophobic pedophile Alabama judge who'd been removed from the bench for judicial misconduct.

This is all perfectly acceptable to Republicans.Their sudden deep concern about the propriety of Cuomo's saucy sausage banter is pretty farking ridiculous.

With their history, they don't get to be upset by anything short of an officeholder found to be a transgender serial killer and amateur moth breeder stitching together a woman-suit out of ample ladies he kidnaps and stores in his basement oubliette.

But really the problem here is not the dismal standards of our political parties. It's the dismal standards we generally hold men to.

You're correct, one hundred percent and more. There's no part of this tale that isn't horrendous.

My own personal opposition to Tanden wasn't because she wasn't progressive enough; I've been a member of the Democratic Party long enough to know better than to think we're al true blue heroes from the socialist future. It was based on this:

"We have a giant deficit. They have a lot of oil. Most Americans would choose not to engage in the world because of that deficit. If we want to continue to engage in the world, gestures like having oil rich countries partially pay us back doesn't seem crazy to me."

In context? She was talking about putting 'boots on the ground' in Libya. And taking their oil as payment for the privilege.

all that said, cuomo may indeed be a provably sleazy ass, and if so he should he held accountable. and maybe he won't. we need to wait and see.

and neera tanden may never be pure enough for the bernie bros. but she's not now nominated for anything. so i guess the bros "won"?

-about Al Franken?

yeah, Al got railroaded out of town with no real evidence, and ms. Kirsten Gillibrand did everything she could to make SURE he'd not be in any presidential primary field.....

the cuomo public trial is probably starting now. but the franken one was never even real. he was never "tried" beyond gossip mags/blogs and other pols with something to directly gain.....

"I know the article is about not turning on Democrats when it would be more politically beneficial for the Republicans, but I think we should turn on a Democrat when it could greatly benefit the Republicans."

Benefit the GOPniks how, precisely? A corrupt, lying shiateyes who thinks ... wait, sorry, a second-generation corrupt, lying shiateyes who thinks NYC is run from Albany and the Presidency is his by natural right of  why no I'd never dye my hair testosteronic majesty only benefits the party of traitors and scum. Defend that illiberal power-dynamic-abusing old pusbag?

Fark that. If he has a coherent defense let his attorneys present it. Otherwise he can get farked with a burned asbestos spar.

andrewagill: GardenWeasel: Everything Cuomo related boils down to this:

I looked up the two:

I don't know Zeldin but if you think Reed has a chance of winning that's hilarious.

I seriously doubted Cuomo would have won the 2022 primary before all this came out. Maybe they'll nominate someone a little further left of Cuomo in 2022, though "A little to the left of Andrew Cuomo" includes Joe Manchin & Joe Lieberman.

Exactly, Cuomo is just a Republican who runs as a democrat so he can win election in New York  Manchin is also a Republican pretending to be a democrat, but in his case, it was because he could not win the Republican primary in his state, and the democrat one was wide open.

It's not about who they are.

It's about who we are.
