Real Women Drink Akvavit: Old is the goal, silly!   Good on ya for  going for it! :-D

groppet, Fark That Pixel

I do a quote of the day, and pic on my Facebook page, trying to get some beauty out there in the world. Today was (submitted before all y'all started talking)
-----------------------------------------------

Life should not be a journey to the grave, with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, "WOW! What a ride!" - Hunter S. Thompson

Chica: I'd like you to acknowledge this, and think about your words the next time you're all "Any time you feel like NOT doing that, I'm ok." Or "Hey, if you want to stay back from the bears, that's GOOD with me." static.xx.fbcdn.net

holy simoleons, I looked through the whole thread and only 1(ONE!) mention of tassels!!! in the original threads I remember many many mentions of tassels and pasties. How on earth can any self respecting caturdayer that was around for those epic threads not remember that. QJ certainly would be grinning and making rather vulgar references to said boobies and the coverings that are used . Shame on all of you FREE THE BOOBS!! Show me that you have complied by emailing your proof to me at eip.. be the first to proclaim your freedom of the slavery of commercial underwear products!! Remember to support our Alien and RWDA, go shirtless and show them to me!!

Real Women Drink Akvavit: Hola, El Gato Amigos! Or however you say that.

I am back from  hospital - have been for a few days - and  am slowly improving. For those who are unaware, things turned out much better than expected. All visible cancer was able to be removed, which is the exact  opposite of what I was told would happen before surgery. yay! Ophelia is DEAD and GONE!

I still have to do chemo when I'm more recovered from surgery to make sure she's gone-gone rather than engaged a cloaking device of some sort, but things are looking much better than we thought  they would, so  I am pleased!

Due to the recurrent nature of my kind of cancer, I still have  a better chance at long term survival if I can have gene therapy. I have my first appointment with the genetic counselor in one week. We know Opehlia will have offspring coming for me, we just don't know when. Even if I am not a good candidate for gene therapy, the longer I can go before my first recurrence of cancer the better my long term chances. We'll make a plan no matter what the genetic testing shows and  try to stay in front of it, in other words.

I'm still not back all the way of course. I'm sleeping a lot, still in pain (though it's getting  better all the time) and generally just tired of it all in addition to being physically unwell. But OH, WELL. I am alive, and that gives me the happiez!

I remember the Alien Invasion - I was lurking, couldn't remember my login to say "oh, hai!" and didn't feel like making a new one yet - and it will be interesting/fun to see the old crowd raising what I'm sure was super polite hell  across the American Southeast.

K. I'm going to get a coffee and try to sloooowly catch up wif you guize. If I suddenly vanish, it just means I fell asleep. Again. lol

groppet: Wow I think that was right before I started coming in on a regular basis but Isaac and the roommate were living with me at the time. Wow where did the last ten years go? Well now I feel old and I am going to go cry now.

edmo: Good news/bad news for Henna the foster cat.

The good news is she left for her "forever" home on Wednesday. Seemed like a nice couple although I had some sense it was more her idea.

The bad news: less than 24 hours later, we had Henna back. Apparently she was "stalking" the husband and did not like him. She got along fine with the other cat who was adopted from the same shelter just a few weeks back. I don't know, I wasn't there, but this is one of the nicest cats I have ever met in 50+ years of being around kitties. It's hard to imagine.

That said, we once had a cat that was an excellent judge of character and made his opinion known of a few people.

She was a little subdued when we got home so we kept a close eye on her. She seems fine.

She's gonna be a great companion for some nice woman who likes having a cat nearby at all times, preferably on the lap or right next to her.

Meanwhile, we get her for a while longer.

[Fark user image 850x1133]

That little angel is a stalker? When the roommate moved in years ago and brought Isaac after he hid behind the couch for a while he would stalk me, guess he was trying to figure me out. I would just turn around and scream "BOO!" and he would haul ass to a hiding spot.

I'm glad you got her back, though.  Something about the guy must have set her off for whatever reason.  I'm sure she'll find her forever home in no time!

It's taken her 18 hours to get back on my lap. She was on mrs edmo's an hour after we brought her home. There does seem to be something there about males. She knows me well after a month and wasn't afraid but has been quite tentative until now.

SpaceMonkey-66: That would be really really cool.  I used to make sourdough about 15 years ago, will need to get another bread maker.  Easier than manually kneading the dough.  Ill get hold of u about it.  Thanks!

Check thrift stores for bread makers. I see them clogging up the top shelves all the time, usually for about $25. Should be about time in the kitchen trend cycle for  sous vide immersion wands to start popping up in thrift stores too, if you ever wanted to try sous vide cooking. I'd not be surprised to see Ninja products any time now, too.

ProcrastinationStation: Very much hoping that RWDA is feeling well enough to come play with us this Caturday....

In the meanwhile, she posted an update to her page:
https://www.gofundme.com/f/sylvia039s-cancer-survival-fund

She's loving the food gift cards, and working hard to get her nutrition (and weight) up...

And as expected,  she's impatient with recovery and wants to be up and running, like NOW.

I'm trying - with everything! Weight for me is just weird. I can go from crazy skinny to crazy chunky and back again all in less than a month. Nutrition is HARD though. I mean REALLY hard. I have food allergies, dietary no-nos and then of course I am incredibly fussy so even if it's something I generally like I won't always eat it because "OMGs. There was a piece of fat in that. *gag*" or "something was chewy. I don't like this to be chewy" or "It looks weird" or "something smelled funny on the freeway last week" or any other number of things that will put me off of a particular item for days or weeks. Pieces of fat in meat have driven me to vegetarianism for months at a time in the past. I have no idea why I am that way, but I am - and there's not a whole hell of a lot I can do about it.

I usually have to 'trick' myself into eating something that is  good for me/high nutritional value that I am rather iffy about by pairing it with something horrifically unhealthy that I love. It's hardly noticeable to most people  because I've dealt with it for so long. They just  think I've got an especially odd diet.  Which I guess I do.

Difficulty: chemo made me even weirder about food, especially since some of the side effects related to taste  never went away. o.0 Maybe some day? That everything tasting like salty plastic thing that I get can be hard to work around when it's really bad. :-(

Just eating is exhausting, especially  right now (understandable), though usually it's preparing the food and then trying to eat it that really knocks me down. I can't always do both and I don't always know what I can and cannot eat anyway, so it's easier to just have more coffee - though I sometimes use coffee shop trips to "trick" myself into eating some of their more nutritious offerings of food.

This is why the gift cards help so much. It gives me a lot to choose from and I don't have to worry about having the energy/health to make the food as well as eat the food, once I figure out what I actually can tolerate that day. It also feels like a treat, so I am building myself up psychologically to eat something, even if I don't want to eat at all. I've even said I'm going for  "treats" here, when  most people would just call it "lunch".

I'm pretty sure I've been battling an especially odd eating disorder most of my life and now I've got sickness adding to the problem. It will take some effort to get my nutrition under control and back where it needs to be, but if I can stay awake long enough, it can be done! lol

I was eating an apple and a Panera cheese souffle (again! my new favorite thing for the week!) earlier while trying to catch up. I ate half of each, carefully put the other half away for lunch - and then fell asleep because I ate. lol But the apple was good for me, so yay! Nutritional baby step achieved!

Real Women Drink Akvavit: SpaceMonkey-66: Well, its been another crazy week, hope everyone is doing well.  Hard to have emergency eye surgery for two retinal tears monday.  Was hosting a zoom presentation last friday, we are ditching Solarwinds for our IT shop and an replacing it with Microsoft SCOM.  About halfway through, in my right eye, I saw exactly what you'd see if you dropped a drop of ink into a glass.  But, it was blood from a burst blood vessel.  As mentioned, my retina tore in two places.  Should heal though and the beaucoup specks/floaters in my eye should go away in a few weeks.  Something ✝🕉 told me to get it checked out fast, glad I did.

Holy cats! What even causes that? I can't even comprehend how that just happens when you're just sitting there, minding your business. Then what? Your retina is like "fark this meeting BS - I'm out" and tries to run away in two directions at the same time? No! Not cool, retina. Def not  cool. Did you yell at the doctors  "DO NOT EVER LET THIS HAPPEN AGAIN!" until they told you how it happened and how it could be made to *not* happen again?

That is so scary!  I'm glad you're gonna be OK.

I can't speak for SM, but both my now deceased sister and myself have a genetic predispositon to detached retinas. Before she passed she had completely lost her vision in her right eye and was nearly completely blind in her left eye. And this was despite several surgeries performed by a specialist in issues with the retina, but it got to the point that he couldn't help her any further. Both of us were born with congenital cataracts too, but it's unknown as to whether or not those are a contributing factor.

Real Women Drink Akvavit: This is why the gift cards help so much. It gives me a lot to choose from and I don't have to worry about having the energy/health to make the food as well as eat the food, once I figure out what I actually can tolerate that day. It also feels like a treat, so I am building myself up psychologically to eat something, even if I don't want to eat at all. I've even said I'm going for "treats" here, when most people would just call it "lunch".

see that folks!?
WE ARE HELPING!!
Here's the Amazon link for more gift cards:

bobug: ProcrastinationStation: Very much hoping that RWDA is feeling well enough to come play with us this Caturday....

And, with that out there... we just (as in I got the box and opened it 2 minutes ago) received the inaugural batch of the RWDA on a Stick World Tour heads!

Interested? Please check out: https://sites.google.com/view/rwdaontour/home?authuser=0 for details. I will be writing a story to go with this first shot tomorrow...

RWDA on a Stick and Bob, sharing a secret!

domari: akimbotoo: Bathia_Mapes: The Ice Queen: For some reason, I was thinking the cat she was escorting was Delta.
I wonder how Delta and Vanna are doing post Invasion tour?

Maybe I'm confused, but I thought Delta was one of the kittens in cretinbob and domari's care.

I remember Delta as being special needs and they were going to keep her.  Vanna was her mom.

That's right, Vanna arrived at Little Mews malnourished and very pregnant. She ended up giving birth to 8 kittens, 4 stillborn, the other 3 too small to survive very long. We fought to keep Delta going, but was never quite right.

Vanna went off to Texas, Delta stayed with us.  Delta was so adorable, quirky, she remained small and had issues but she was very much loved by everyone who saw her. Especially here on Caturday. She had her own calendar, Christmas ornaments, and "Flat Delta" had a lot of adventures!

A couple years ago, Delta started to go downhill fast, we had to send her off to the bridge. :(  It was sad to let her go, but she was with us longer than we thought she would be.

Delta will remain be in our hearts forever.

That's always been my favorite Delta pic. That just always screamed "oblivious happiness" to me. We should all try to be more like Delta, at least once in a while. ♥

Real Women Drink Akvavit: Timid Goddess: A small windfall means we will have shelter from when we have to leave the house til we have a new place.  Spouse has been busy arranging a foster or new home for the two cats as well as transport there.  Still a LOT of uncertainty...

I remember the Invasion, wanted to meet Alien, but she didn't stop close enough.  I might have still been lurking much of the time back then.

I was thinking about you the other  day! I'm glad things are moving in a positive direction even if they are far from ideal. I totally get the uncertainty thing - I HATE uncertainty if I have no control over anything. I can scarcely imagine how hard it must  be even with help. I'd be losing my damn mind on an hourly basis, at least.

Letting of the things we can't control really is hard. For some reason phrasing it that way never really worked for me at all. Then I learned about stoicism and the Stoic philosphers and for some unfathomable reason, that helped. The deal there is that while I may not be able to control some things going on around me or that directly impact me and my life, I can control how I react to them. So that's what I try to do.

It's not easy. It's not fun, because UNCERTAINTY SUCKS. But I do try to manage my reactions to uncertainty, to find if not a positive, then a tolerable - and then run with it, even if it makes me look like a damn loon. I already feel like one a lot of the time, so why not go for the full look too, right? ;-)

I wish there was something I could do to help you guys in a real, meaningful way. I truly do. I hope that when I am well enough to travel again that if I make it out near you I have the opportunity to bring a little housewarming gift, because everything got better and you're well settled. I hope that's reality sooner rather than later.

Squishy hugz all around! Be sure and give some to the Little Gas Molecule for us! She's pretty tough to be going through all this so gracefully. She deserves mad props for it - as you do for giving ...

The Little Gas Molecule trusts Daddy when he says everything will be fine... eventually.  We are seeing the stress in the "clingyness", aways with Daddy, Mommy or both.  Then there is being quicker to frustration than "normal".  Not that any of us are what would be considered within "normal" by typical people.

I tend toward complete denial even though I am aware of it to minimize my stress/distress levels.  Which is why I am waking up once or twice a night when I'm not taking antihistamines in the evening.  Taking an hour or more to fall asleep is "normal", well for me and the LGM, at any rate.

We will make it through this... somehow.

*I believe that "normal" is a myth perpetrated by the majority of individuals with "normal", aka typical, neurochemistry.

Real Women Drink Akvavit: I'm trying - with everything! I have no idea why I am that way, but I am - and there's not a whole hell of a lot I can do about it.

you has something coming tomorrow. try it and there should not be anything you are allergic to, try the different flavors. I know you hate new stuffs. dont be a fussie cat. just be loved and believe we are just trying to help. refrigerate em before trying.
