Now ask her if Biden won fair and square.

I will always remember her for her stubborn refusal to implement a mask mandate early on saying "We aren't California".

So good on her for eventually realizing that we're all in the same boat on this and not actively trying to kill her constituents. It's a low bar but a shocking number of republicans seem hellbent on not even trying to clear it.

FTA Ivey said the roughly one month mask extension allows businesses ample time to implement their own policies and make adjustments ahead of the deadline.

And on April 10th any business you go to will require a mask so nothing is changing

She's a Republican, so in a way, she IS cancer.

So, you're telling me that it effects her personally, so she has a reason to care?

She doesn't get brownie points for doing less than the bare minimum.

"Alabamians are smart. They have good common sense. "

When you have to tell someone they are smart like this, no, they are not.

I'm other words, she'd be all for going full Branch Covidian, except now it affects her.

Jim Justice did too, talking about how masks are saving lives in West Virginia.

FTFY.

And this is why I will always lean authoritarian. The people simply cannot be trusted to act intelligently on their own.

"I don't mean book-learnin', I mean common sense" is only spoken by people who have neither.

subby must not be from around here.  Sissy is what they say in Mississippi.  In Alabama we call them "maiden aunts"

You do know that Texas Gov Abbott is a $10M or so lottery winner (a neighbor's  tree fell on his legs).  He sued, won, then made it difficult for any lawyers to repeat that championing "tort" reform.

So negligence and damages are illusive -- for either COVID or a pattern of mismanagement of utilities in the GOP world of governance.

If Abbott thought an ambulance would fall on him for us not wearing a mask we'd never get a moustache tan again.

There's always a few exceptions. Oddly enough, the governor of West Virginia of all places locked down WV only a few days after the state's first confirmed case, accidentally hot-miced an exasperated "Just wear a farking mask", has had a mask mandate and has no intention of lifting it until the plague is actually over, and even spearheaded efforts to do things like get a whole bunch of wi-fi hotspots set up to ensure students in areas with shiatty broadband coverage could attend remote classes. He also helped set up a system that makes it easier to get vaccinated than in most places, including a phone line to schedule an appointment with because assuming people 75+ are internet-savvy is not a good idea. I don't agree with the guy on much else, but he's actually handled Covid surprisingly well for a red governor in a deeeeeeeeeply red state.

I see 100% mask compliance everywhere around the Birmingham suburbs, pretty consistently for almost a year now (even before the order, most stores required it).

But I went about 10 miles away the other day (outer 'burbs) -- Target had 100% masking. PetSmart next door? About 10%.

Were they looking for bats? Civets? All that place carries is bettas and a couple snakes. And the sign on the door said "no mask, no entry" but clearly wasn't being enforced. We left pretty quickly.

So how long until the legislature impeaches and removes her for not actively trying to kill her constituents?

Pelham checking in here.  Notable exceptions where masking seems optional in practice are auto parts stores (AutoZone, looking at you), and a few specialty suppliers (plumbing, electrical, etc.).

There's a few non-maskers starting to come out of the woodwork in supermarkets and big boxes. Don't EVEN get me started on those leaving their nose uncovered, or worse, those effing-stupid micromasks...

It doesn't matter where you are, people as an aggregate are not smart, and common sense isn't nearly as common as people think it is.

King Something: So how long until the legislature impeaches and removes her for not actively trying to kill her constituents?

The Attorney General made a bunch of noise to end the mandate prior to this (scheduled) announcement so he can run against her next year.

Our legislative chambers are still dealing with the fall of the confederacy, they're not going to catch up on this pandemic even existing for quite some time.

My specific example was in Bessemer/McCalla -- just surprising to see a couple stores so compliant, another one like "Don't care!"

For some reason, I can totally see the auto parts store being a low-compliance zone (Get in the Zone!)

I've been generally pretty proud of masking levels, but I hate to think it's because a lot of people here got an early taste of seeing friends/family die.

Around st Clair county the big box places are masking
The smaller stores about half the customers  and just about all the employees are wearing mask
