Any Republicans care to chime in here as to why anyone making less than high six figures ever voted for a Republican?

Wow.
Prior to the norm shattering absolute farkery of Trump this would have been the biggest scandal of the 21st century, an absolute encapsulation of wealth and privilege abusing the system and a perfect preview of how the rich and powerful will fark us all over when climate change starts really bringing the pain.

I dunno. Exchanging money for a good (especially a high demand good) is pretty capitalism.

I get there are intermediaries like "labeling it a campaign donation", but they paid a guy to get him to give them a thing they want. That's not far off hiring any other service worker.

Capitalism is anything you don't like, then apparently.

Strictly speaking capitalism is the ownership of capital, that is, things like machinery, that make production of goods more efficient.

This kind of thing happened in the most socialist of countries. Mostly because the basics of life were hard to find.

It's more "we have managed to board wealth on a scary level, to the point where the lack of regulation means that wealth gives us untold access to government and influence."

Its not that this is capitalism, full stop. It's that this is the fallout when unfettered capitalism results in such imbalance that the poor are now an exploitable and vulnerable class because the rich have first dibs on the things that government should be rationing based on need, not on ability to pay.

Capitalism is bad when it comes to healthcare precisely for the reason you stated. It values capital and profit, not labor or well being.

I hadn't paid a bit of attention to where the prior Governor of Illinois disappeared to after losing the last election. It's funny that he turned up in Florida and managed to get vaccinated months before the rest of the poors will be able to.

The previous administration had 4 Cabinet Secretaries referred to the DOJ for criminal investigation (which was declined by the fixers selected to head DOJ). There are about 15 Secretaries, so it would appear that more than a quarter of them are probably criminal. That isn't counting the ones that are crooks outside of their official duties (Wilber, we're looking at you. Wake up!).
I remember when just one Bert Lance or Ron Brown was a huge deal. Corruption has become so normalized that half of the population just says "And?"

DeSantis strikes me as being the blatant and unapologetic obnoxious sort. And that's who he is as a politician too. He doesn't seem to care about rules or ethics or serving the people of Florida as a whole, as long as he gets what's on his specific agenda out of it.
He's very like Trump in that respect, from everything I can tell anyway.

It sounds to me like he's basically running a racket down there. And legally, no one seems to be doing anything about it.

Ron DeSantis is a bioterrorist and genocidal maniac.

DeSantis brings death to America.

Failing to specifically and accurately describe DeSantis as a bioterrorist and genocidal maniac aids DeSantis' cover ups.

Good on the Chicago Tribune for calling out DeSantis' bioterrorism and politicide.

All of DeSantis' donors deserve to have their intellectual property immediately released into the public domain so they cannot finance more terrorism and genocide.

Terrorists don't deserve to be afforded any monopolies.

The vaccine is owned by the government.
That's Socialism.
Priority access is granted by donating to a politician's campaign.  That's corruption.
Capitalism is nowhere to be seen in this story.
Now, if priority access was given to people based on their contributions to the treasury, whether voluntary or through taxes, you could argue that's fascism, but that's not what happened here.  This is just garden variety corruption.

It really doesn't matter. Get vaccines in everyone's arms as fast as possible.  Hell, it would have been just fine to allow people to buy a place in line, and use the money to improve vaccination outreach in disadvantaged communities. There just aren't that many rich people to matter relative to the overall vaccine volume.

From the perspective of state government, the federal government owns vaccine and distributes it at no cost.  At that level, it's certainly socialism.
