Someone needs to tell Arec Bardwin that she's not actually Maggie Thatcher. That's probably a large part of his rage.

That, plus raising those Irish Mega-Twins and the inevitable sleep deprivation that comes with having two kids under 6 months old.

I dunno, maybe the nuanced side of me thinks maybe it's different when an actor uses an accent to prepare for a role or be in character instead of a non-actor just deciding to have a new ethnicity.

"HI, I'm Gillian Anderson, and I'm using an accent because I'm in a show where I portray someone from England."

"HOLA, yo soy Hilaria, I am now from Spain and do not know words I grew up learning like cucumber."

Except she legit lived there for 10 years as a child and it wear she learned to frigging talk. Her family would spend their summers  And has lived on and off there for the last 30 years.

My father came to the US at 5 and went back to Colombia for the summers and if you hear him speak English he sounds anyone off the street in New Orleans and if you hear him in Spanish you would swear that he never had left Colombia or could even speak English.

My Chet American Man accent is very midwestern ish because having lived out of the country so long I was not exposed to regional accents when I spoke English and only sometimes when I drink or am back in Louisiana then I start to sound like Harry Connick JR.

Hilaria parents retired there and she spent a few summers on the continent and tried to reinvent herself with a god damn lie.

It's legitimately her primary accent.  The American one is the one she puts on.

The British accent you criticize is the way she speaks most of the time.

Not British.

Usually, your day-to-day accent reflects where you lived as an adolescent. Not always. I have a friend who moved from Kentucky to Boston in his early 20s and now he sounds like Norm from Cheers.

I spent a year of college in England. My accent changed a little, but what really went crazy was the amount of swearing. F-bombs were like punctuation. I finally noticed I was still swearing a lot a few months after I got back. Once I was aware I was doing it, I shut it off. Now years later I still swear less than people I'm around. Very self conscious when I swear.

Nope, this is Fark; everyone here hates her without knowing anything about her.

They hate her so much they're piling on Gillian Anderson for doing a spot-on Thatcher voice.

Remember: Thatcher grew up the daughter of a shop owner, had a degree in chemistry, defeated the coal unions who wanted Britain forever dependent upon a polluting fossil fuel and she did so with only 3 deaths - less lethal than the US inaugurating a new President.

Strangely, Tony Blair the man who lied because he wanted to kill brown people in Iraq, is a hero around here.
