Me (in January 2020): hey, let's plan a trip to Iceland this year!

(COVID happens, I cancel trip)

Me (in January 2021): hey, let's plan a trip to Iceland after COVID is done!

(Massive volcanic eruption)

Me (in January 2022): cool, the volcanic eruption that shut down air travel is over.  Let's go to Iceland now!

(Mars is knocked out of orbit and collides with Earth)

/ I should stop planning trips to Iceland

Happy wife, happy life, dude.

If that takes making the earth move, most Farkers would happily move to Iceland to have your problems.

In one of the island nation's many quirks, the volcano's name is actually pronounced as "Steve."

Seems like a lot of major volcanic activity lately. Mount Etna, the one in South America, and now this win in Iceland. I knew we should've re-elected Trump.

Chuck him into the lava as a peace offering to the mountain god.

If you're into Þorn, you will be needing an alphabet app for Icelandic. Or when one of more volcanoes goes, clearing the skies of air traffic, substituting nano particles of volano ash, you may find it therapeutic to swear in Icelandic.

Most slackers would just use random letters.

If it's the one I think it is, the region has been on permanent evacuation warning for the past 30 some years because it has been overdue and on the verge of going off since.

It's probably not that one, because this one has only really become imminent in the last few days and weeks.

You may be right.  Re-reading the article and it said no towns were at risk for lava and the one in thinking of, the town of Grindavík would be totally wiped.  Same peninsula though.

Had to look up the name of the town and came across several articles from the past few years warning that the region was building up to an eruption and increasing earthquakes.  So really, nothing new, just more.

Not just NZ, but also the nearby Solomon Islands, including Vanuatu and another one or two.
The big 8.1 NZ earthquake was in a small island way north of the main NZ area, but there's a tsunami warning out.

Probably not related at all.
Not related.  Different set of tectonic plates on the other side of the world.

I was stationed in Keflavik from April 1992 to October 1993. We we told that if a volcano erupted while there, any electronics we owned would be ruined by the volcanic ash. No mention of what it would do to us humans.

Luckily there were no eruptions while I was there.

A friend of mine was stranded in London during the last Icelandic volcano eruption and horrible things happened.   When planes could no longer fly in northern Europe she was forced to go own a shopping spree in London, then one in Paris, then Milano, then finally Madrid where she was able to get a flight back to the US.
