Beside of the outfit there is an uncanny resemblance, interesting coincidence.

Au contraire, Subs.

Wallis Simpson is pretty well known to history, idiot-mitter.

Of all the reasons to compare Meghan Markle with Wallis Simpson, especially in light of the Sussex exit from royal duties, I assure you that dress is the absolute last one I would have cited.

2021-03-03 1:39:51 PM
She's a Nazi sympathizer?

Is this one of those trolls where you say something obviously dumb so the people who love to show how smart they are correct you?

She was wearing Diana's bracelet as well

2021-03-03 1:55:31 PM
Seeing the white stains, I assumed it was going to be Monica Lewinksy, not Wallis Simpson.

2021-03-03 1:56:19 PM
Yeah, pretty sure that look was deliberate.

Ok, which of you had never heard of Wallis Simpson? Slap your world history teacher.

The comparisons had already been made and I figure maybe she just went with that look to underscore the parallels.

I've heard of Wallis Simpson, but I don't understand why this is on the Politics Tab.

2021-03-03 2:01:44 PM
It took me about five years after reading this headline to figure out who Meghan Markles was.  I just don't care what the royals have done since about oooooh boy lets seeeee around Charles and Di getting married.

someonelse: Ok, which of you had never heard of Wallis Simpson? Slap your world history teacher.

Here!  No idea.  Question:  Should I slap him the first time I had him or the second?

I dunno, but the past 4 years pretty much disqualifies us from ever talking shiat on the British Royal Family ever again.

has Oprah actually be relevant in a decade ? who cares

Why, because of the immense power the Monarchy still wields over the Commonwealth governments, of course. And later this year, for the first time there will be a British Royal who could one day be eligible to run for President, completing the Monarchy's centuries long conspiracy to take back the colonies.

Daeva: every outfit will look like an outfit someone else wore before, stop trying to read meaning into it.

Good luck with that. People have been trying to find meaning in everything since the dawn of time (eclipses, meteor showers, weather changes, their own damn feelings) Except now, instead of constantly attributing everything to some kind of divine machination, they go online & share conspiracy theories with other empty souls looking for a reason for everything.

And it must have some kind of meaning (to them), or else that would mean they've been wasting their time while neglecting their family & friends for nothing.

While I know about Wallis Simpson and Edward VIII, I don't think it had anything to do with a history class. My High School history teachers usually failed to properly estimate how long the curriculum would take to get through, and we'd get to around World War I before realizing there was no time for anything else but World War II and a quick flyover of the rest of the last century.

Yeah.  I'm guessing a lot of people heard something mentioned quickly about the whole thing in history class (also relevant to US history), but I'm not sure that's why I know about it either.  Wallis Simpson comes up quite a bit in pop culture and Hollywood stuff though.  Most recently for everyone who binge-watched The Crown - that obscure show that won just about everything at the Golden Globes.

We're bingeing Suits and a lot of our MST3K-style dialogue for her is along the lines of "to hell with you people, I'm going to go be a duchess!"

Oh my god, a woman making a public appearance with her husband wore the family heirloom he gave her.

And she wore a black v-neck dress with an entirely different white floral print, she must be sending a message.

Yeah, this is digging for anything to talk about.

Or maybe some of us know what a rebus is.

Her majesty regularly sends messages with her broaches as has been mentioned before. This was a fairly unsubtle message for those who could read it

Well this isn't Her Majesty.

And again, there is absolutely nothing unusual about wearing jewellery your husband gave you that belonged to his deceased mother or a dress with a couple similarities to a dress worn by someone else in a photograph.

Page Six certainly wants you to associate that, yes. They're like the Daily Mail but less highbrow.
