So Texas is 99.9999999% open.

That's still pretty good.

If the Gov Mansion is not available, how about hospital tours?

Let the maskless show their strength and freedom to the COVID-19 ward. It will inspire the patients to recover and enjoy their freedoms too.

@GregAbbott_TX

I just announced Texas is OPEN 100%.

EVERYTHING.

I also ended the statewide mask mandate.

I know that staircase well.
I worked as a groundskeeper at the Mansion for 11 years and 4 governors.
Gov. Hogg had to put nails in the bannister to keep the kids from sliding down it.

In a perfect world, that capitol would be stormed to demand this f*ckwad's resignation.

Restaurants don't haveto be open.  They can choose to close their doors ... and then have all of their clientele go to other restaurants.

Of course, the Governor's Mansion has no competition in the market.  There isn't another Governor's Mansion in Texas that people can go pay to take a tour of.

So this was to keep kids who never learned to respect others peoples property from sliding down it? That sounds like major parent failure to me. I was taught to respect other peoples property and homes and to always ask permission for almost anything.

Heck. When I was a kid and visited others with my parents we are required to help put away the toys we played with with their kids unless reliefed of the duty by the owners.

What "Open" may look like.

With quite a few Texans having multiple near death experiences (Covid, freezing, no water, utility bills) it may be that Abbott will drive new businesses from relocating to Texas. He could possibly kill existing businesses, gambling that this time is the charm, and the variants are just scare tactics by smart people who didn't make a killing in the energy market last week.

Abbott opened everything up so he could turn Spring Break on South Padre Island into a national superspreader event

Which is also what everyone who can Zoom to work while supporting lockdowns/restrictions is saying to those that lost jobs and businesses:

"Got MY paycheck. Stay home, save lives!"

Good for Texas, Florida, Mississippi, and a few other states that aren't allowing this un-scientific nonsense to continue indefinitely. If you want to wear a mask and/or stay home, you still can.

Less so now.

Just when you think the GOP have hit peak hypocrisy something like this happens.

If you're working retail, it seems to trigger the anti-mask snowflakes.

At this point I'm starting to wonder if red staters are just sacrificing people to make Biden's COVID response numbers look as bad as Trump's. A mask mandate costs nothing. There is no financial implications to this.

Galveston was one of those places that lost electricity entirely.  Texas City, on the mainland, is the county seat, and is part of the wall of refineries from the Gulf upstream 50 miles to Houston, the energy capital of the world and home of former Enron, which also played scarcity games during catastrophes.
