My favorite is Zapp's Voodoo flavor -- they basically say on the bag "We just threw all of our shiat together and it's delicious"

2021-03-03 10:00:11 AM
That evolved tendency "makes it difficult for us to say no when we're presented with food that's even just slightly different from what we just ate," as Moss writes.

An incredible insight from "Hooked: Food, Free Will, and How the Food Giants Exploit Our Addictions" a new book by the author of "Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us."

To match all the vodak flavors, of course.

It's a potato thing?

Because a potato chip won't taste right unless it is chemically treated to be a cheesy, siracha, chipotle, ghost pepper, dill pickle, garlic, sour cream and onion, ranch, and seat salt chip, Right?

Now. The greater debate.

Ripples or no?

I haven't had them in a while, but that makes sense; they were kinda savory, kinda spicy, kinda sweet.

Isn't that how they came up with "All Dressed" chips?

Just buy different flavors and mixed and crush them together.  A lot of flavors are regionally made and sold at certain stores.

and Subs, much as I agree with you... several years ago a friend turned us onto these Herr's horseradish cheddar ones, and holy-amazeballs are they ever good. and they don't even pull punches on the horseradish, I was blown away!

I loved those. Sadly, the office vending machine stopped stocking them. But they did start stocking these, which are surprisingly good for a smoother salt and vinegar tangy flavor.

Hello, my name is Henry and I'm a tater-chip addict. I got my dog Tedders addicted to them as well.
If he's outside and hears the crinkle of a chip bag he'll dive head-first through a plate glass window to get to them.

Around superbowl time, the local grocery had these and the evil eye flavor on sale - 2 bags, $5. Think I went through 5-8 bags that week.

And just as quickly, the sales display was gone...

cheapskate that I am... our supermarche has them 'bout tree-fitty sometimes up to five bucks. our beloved Dollar Tree, while having a wonderfully entirely-beyond-stupid array of Herr's flavors, still never carries it. however, "one dollar zone" does. well, sometimes (probably because I buy out the entire shelf, ha)

I don't like flavored chips. If I'm feeling adventurous I'll go for unsalted.

Most people agree with me.
https://www.mashed.com/296285/the-most-popular-potato-chip-flavor-in-the-us-isnt-what-you-think/
according to research from market and consumer data company Statista, the most popular potato chip flavor is actually plain.
According to the data that Statista drew from the U.S. Census data and from Simmons National Consumer Survey (NHCS), 191.19 million Americans consumed plain potato chips in 2020. The runner-up flavor wasn't even close - 86.95 million Americans consumed barbecue-flavored potato chips, making it less than half as popular as plain.

However that report counts people not quantities of chips. I'm not a big chip consumer. Maybe those who are are addicted to flavored chips and are the bulk of consumers in the market and the most profitable.

I couldn't find anything about potato chip sales broken down by flavor.

So Zapp's Voodoo is like slightly spicier all dressed and Zapp's Evil Eye are similar to ketchup chips, to extent that I'm convinced the person who started Zapps was a Canadian who moved to New Orleans.

That applies to pretty much every processed food, not just potato chips.  Crackers, cookies, cereal, even things like prepared pasta sauces.  They want you to buy more and more and more.

Best chips ever. Everyone whose tried em in Montana and Texas loved em. My buddy and I would get 1 pound boxes from my family on our birthdays.

They actually sell the powder in a shaker now.

Magical sodium laced powder.

Just bring these damn things back locally, or better yet Lay's version -- start selling them all around the US instead of just across the border from Windsor.

Been on keto for a while, so chips are right out.  Salty crunchy fat is my Achilles heel, so I simply don't buy chips of any sort, and substitute in nuts and chicharrons.   Those are starting to come out in a variety of flavors now, too.

But no salt and vinegar.   I would kill for a salt and vinegar almond or macadamia nut.
