I think you'd be surprised at the age group, "the kids" seem more interested in pop rock than Carl Cox.

We are still in a lockdown because of a global pandemic.

Plus trespassing, property damage, no fire precautions, noise pollution etc.

Indeed.

Another generation discovers drugs and music, like the marijuana and ragtime of the flappers, the bennies and bop jazz of the beats, the psychedelics and rock n roll of the hippies, cocaine and disco of the yuppies, ecstasy and techno of the ravers.....

no, that would be whatever line dancing bullshiat people are doing.  i have not once seen any square dancers gak a rail of crystal then proceed to lose their shiat in front of a massive speaker stack.  not even once.

the point is that hippies didn't keep holding ragtime dances - they did their own thing.

raves are a dead end. come up with something inventive.

/now then, if you'll excuse me, i'm off to do some drugs
//no i'm not going to need a glowstick. it's 2021 ffs.

If it weren't the middle of a pandemic, I'd say good job by the kids, holding a rave the way you're supposed to, illegally in some industrial area!  (Friends around here used to hold them under freeways, back in the 90s.)

Definitely not, but if you're trying to keep up with challenge-level square dancing, a bit of extra chemical stimulation might help.  (Back when we were actively dancing, our caller did a lot of what people described as "challenge-level patterns with basic and mainstream calls".  Of course the traditional chemical stimulants for square dancing are caffeine and sugar.)

gameshowhost: the point is that hippies didn't keep holding ragtime dances - they did their own thing.

And they're still doing their own thing today, 50 years later. Who do you think Grateful Dead and Phish concerts are for? These generations don't evolve or grow, they stick with the recreational culture they partook in their youth. And so can anyone else if they like.

gameshowhost: raves are a dead end.

Not sure why you're singling out raves. It's just a fixed moment in time that people enjoy in perpetuity, like all the others.

What are you complaining about?

i shiat you not, my parents are competitive square dancers (they are in their 80's).  i grew up around a bunch of white people in raggedy ann/andy plaid getting jacked on free coffee and cigarettes moving to the smooth drawl of their favorite callers.  yes, i know how to square dance, that's why i was a rave dj/producer.

here in Philly i have 28 year olds telling me all about raves in the early 90's.  like they were there.

i tell them to stop trying to recreate a past and make their own underground.  the last party i played was in Brooklyn 7 March 2020.  i tell people to stop living in their phones when they are out at a party and to dance with abandon because it very well might be the last time they get to.  too busy looking cool to have fun i guess.

it would be awesome if the new underground included laser tag, smoke machines, and digital glitch or some shiat like that.  today is 3/03 - everyone shiats on the TB303 but there are more clones then every before.  get a new sound people.
