Doesn't matter, it's going to offend somebody.  Most likely some racist f*ck who will take the opportunity to point up how ridiculous the non-white-undercut hair is or something.

Submitted for consideration.

Kyrie Irving had been pushing for Kobe Bryant specifically and TFA does point out a specific problematic incident from Bryant's life that I think should be disqualifying.  If I were the NBA, I would not be inclined to use a specific individual on the logo if for no other reason than even if you pick a model citizen, there's always a chance something could be discovered later.  I'd avoid showing a player entirely, not that I have a design in mind.

2021-03-02 3:31:23 PM
There are definitely players I'd use as the logo before Kobe.  I think Kyrie is experiencing recency bias.

IMO BIll Russell would be the obvious choice.

2021-03-02 3:32:28 PM
Pretty insensitive to the cast of Hoosiers.

I am digging the MJ or Dr J choices!

2021-03-02 3:35:15 PM
It's going to be LeBron at some point after he retires.

2021-03-02 3:38:07 PM
Of course, the players could probably do with someone other than Kyrie Irving to make their point

2021-03-02 3:43:15 PM
Or how about not using a silhouette in a new logo?

MLB, too.  I don't care what anyone says, HISPANIC KINGS BUILT THE LEAGUE.

/not even remotely racist, is it?

It can't be Jordan, because of the Air Jordan trademark. Kobe would be a great choice, but for the fact that he was accused of sexual assault. When you are a corporation choosing a person as the literal symbol of your business, you have to consider everything about them (which is a great reason to never choose a person as the literal symbol of your business). Kareem is controversial, but in exactly the right way. Also, the sky hook would make an iconic, instantly recognizable silhouette, so that seems like a good choice. Magic is pretty much universally loved, so that could work. Dr. J has everyone's respect and would look great on the logo. It might also be a good idea to use a less famous Sixth Man type, to honor the league's grinders and role players. Lots of options and there is absolutely no reason not to do it.

there's that, but also that I don't think the NBA pays royalties to Jerry West on the current logo.

It seems unlikely anyone agreeing to be The Logo now would forgo asking for royalties however small.

in any event it's just a silhouette. not sure why a different silhouette would be better.

The sad part is that i would guess MOST people have no objection to updating a 50 year old logo....

But a black man suggesting to replace it with a black man, is what they are disagreeing with.   They might claim that its catering to the 'woke' movement... but thats not their real issue.     Their real issue is the notion that giving power to a black man somehow takes away some of their own power.    This scares them.  So weak.

Spud Webb next to Manute Bol. That should be the logo.

This is what I came to post.

Kyrie Irving is so much less than he says he is.  It takes weird talent to be so good at something yet make everything around you worse.  He is the anti-Jordan.

I honestly forgot there was even a silhouette in the logo. I forgot about the logo.

Meh. Change it. Who cares?

i assume you are against changing the logo?    If my reasons above for you feeling this way are not accurate, please simply offer some compelling reason not to change it.   I'll wait.

My God even without the rape this farking Kobe lust NEEDS TO GOD DAMNED DIE like he did. Immediately and in flames.

Jesus Christ not even a top 10 all time player or someone who changed the league and he's farking treated like MJ.

Don't make it any form that would be recognized, it should be generic to represent all the players. Like now. Just change it from white to black.

You're assuming a whole lot pal. You sounds like a dumbass. I don't care about a corporate logo.
Most people don't. And most people didn't even know it was Jerry West's evil cracker ass silhouette.

But ... why should it be Kobe Bryant?

If Annette Bening does anything, it is not weird. By default it would be perfect, seeing as how she is a goddess incapable of producing anything which is not perfection.

I ha e no injection to changing the logo or for a black man to suggest another black man.

However, Kyrie is a f*ckin' idiot and Kobe is the most overrated player of the past 30+ years, so this idea can FOH.

Stephen Marbury was very good at being an All-NBA guy who made every team he was on worse. Kyrie is his successor.

Seconded, although I looked her up to make sure she was who I remembered her being and holy sh*t, has anyone seen her and Elizabeth Warren in the same place in the past few years?

Kareem is the only person other than the Jordan jumpman logo where I could envision a silhouette that would be instantly recognizable as him and nobody else.

a Kobe silhouette would be just be a Jordan knockoff.
