That's swell.

A huge part of why so many of these idiots think the election was shady is cause they never followed politics or elections before President Asshole.

If you have no clue about how these votes come in on election night and have been told it's fraud and are dumb, then yeah you will believe it was stolen.
I remember Bush vs Kerry and the huge swings in votes later in the night.  This happens in all elections.  These MAGA people are dumb and willfully ignorant.  Their gut is smarter than your two PhDs.

The Pearson people are going to throw a holy fit. They paid good money to that dumbfark chicken farmer on the Education committee to make their tests mandatory statewide, and they'll be damned if they'll let one dead cop in Washington shut off the gravy spigot.

Civics/history/et c. are easy-street courses for coaches who need something to do during the day so they can be paid, or for teachers who may or may not care about educating kids, but either way they don't want to take a ton of work home every night. It's not a "tested" subject like English or Math so there's less pressure, too. Farking with that means upsetting school staffing substantially. Most of the workforce engaged in teaching those subjects is probably either unable or unwilling to teach a significantly more rigorous course, except maybe at higher pay (good luck with that, since we don't really differentiate pay between subjects and there are already some that take more time to teach well than others--consider e.g. how long it takes to grade student writing and provide the kind of feedback that'll help them improve and make the exercise actually-valuable, for 90-110 students).

As with most effective improvements to education, it'll require more money for staffing to work right. But we don't like paying people well who do "fulfilling" work (cf Graeber's Bullshiat Jobs) so good luck with that.

has neglected the teaching of civics and American history," said Paul Carrese,"

We've also neglected teaching world history. The little American history our students get almost exists in a vacuum because they aren't taught about the history that proceeded it and laid the philosophical foundation of the country. The "patriotic" defenders of what they imagine Western Civilization is are woefully unfamiliar with the historic, literary, artistic and philosophical achievements of the West (and everywhere else).

We also don't have qualified history or civics teachers. Only a tiny fraction of people teaching those subjects in middle or HS have a degree, or even a minor, in history/government or related field. History and social studies in our public schools are taught by coaches who need more hours to be full time. There's so many athletic programs: basketball, football, wrasslin, track and field... for both boys and girls, that you end up with more coaches than you can use to teach PE. The rest gotta be given something to do and that's teaching our social studies and history classes w/o having any qualifications other than teaching the book.

I'm afraid we may be fundamentally broken.

Decades of "individualism", decades of unanswered propaganda and lies, and the gradual erosion of the line between fact and opinion has left most Americans incapable of rational political discourse.  Half the country thinks we need to drain the swamp, which somehow entails installing a con man as president for life.  The other half has to spend so much time and effort countering all that, which makes them look like they don't know how to govern.

Americans used to be divided, sometimes deeply, but we never had to deal with each group having it's own set of facts, which are held as closely as scripture.

I don't see how either group brings the other into it's fold.  Progressives are never going to accept the fantasies of  global warming denial, evangelicalism, and racism, while conservatives will never accept change unless it's negative change.

Hell, even this is tainted by bias, and I was trying to be even handed.  I don't feel either side needs to be destroyed, although the world will be a better place with the end of several political careers.

It's going to take a long time to change things.  People like Rush Limbaugh and Newt Gingrich didn't do all that work just to see what they had wrought come tumbling down overnight.

Here is a link to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence report on Russian active measure campaigns and interference in the 2016 election. It is nearly 500 pages and goes in to excruciating detail about how intelligence assets from the Russian government worked to get Donald Trump elected.

Here is a link to the Justice Department Report On The Investigation Into Russian Interference In The 2016 Presidential Election (aka the Muller Report). It is also nearly 500 pages long and goes in to excruciating detail about how intelligence assets from the Russian government worked to get Donald Trump elected.

"B-b-but Robert Muller said there was no collusion and Trump was totally exonerated! Fake News!"

False. Robert Muller said that because of policies within the Justice Department "charging the president with a crime was not an option we could consider" but that "If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so"

If that's too many words to wade through for you, what he said was that they weren't allowed to say Trump committed a crime, but if he hadn't committed a crime they would say he didn't and they weren't going to say that.

All 17 of the intelligence agencies in the United States and several other agencies from other countries concluded that Russia actively worked to swing the election to Trump.

Thing is, I'm sure you already knew all that but since you're a disingenuous little troll you keep spewing lies that further the weakening of our democracy. I hope you're very proud.

Jan. 13, 2017.  "I don't see this president-elect as a legitimate president," Rep. John Lewis said on "Meet the Press"

Jan. 16, 2017. Rep. Don Beyer, a Virginia Democrat. "But I will not be part of normalizing or legitimizing a man whose election may well have depended on the malicious foreign interference of Russia's leaders."

May 14, 2019. At a Biden campaign event in Nashua, N.H., a long-winded woman who described herself as having "Trump derangement syndrome" called Trump an "illegitimate president" because he won the 2016 election by nearly 80,000 votes in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan -- aided, she said, by the Kremlin. Joe Biden stated that he absolutely agreed.

June 28, 2019. Six weeks later, it was President Jimmy Carter's turn. "There's no doubt that the Russians did interfere in the election, and I think the interference, although not yet quantified, if fully investigated would show that Trump didn't actually win the election in 2016"

Literally not a single one of these sentences say that "Russia Stole the Election."

Would you like to re-frame the discussion to one of "Interference?" If so, I would be happy to oblige, after you admit that it is not the same claim as the one that Trump and the GOP are still making that Democrats engaged in massive voter fraud, cast thousands of illegal votes, and literally stole the election.

Once you admit that the comparison between the two things is completely false, I'll be happy to have a further conversation.

"Hillary Clinton dismissed President Trump as an "illegitimate president" and suggested that "he knows" that he stole the 2016 presidential election in a CBS News interview to be aired Sunday.

The former secretary of state, who lost the presidency to Trump, offered a scathing assessment of the president, his 2016 win and the latest allegations that he tried to obtain incriminating information from a foreign government about Joe Biden, a possible 2020 opponent, according to excerpts released by CBS from a wide-ranging pretaped interview for its "Sunday Morning" show"

"
"You can run the best campaign, you can even become the nominee, and you can have the election stolen from you," she said to cheers on the Los Angeles stop of her "Evening with the Clintons" tour with her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

During the tour's stop Friday in Seattle, Clinton pointed to FBI Director Christopher Wray's warning last month that Russia continues to pose a "very significant counterintelligence threat" and that efforts to influence U.S. elections with "social media, fake news" and "propaganda" has "continued pretty much unabated.""

I don't know who you think you're arguing against, or why.

Is your position that Democrats in 2016 made the exact same claims that the GOP is making today regarding "Stolen Elections?" You're saying that the Democrats in 2016 literally said that Russia manufactured and cast thousands of illegal votes, engaged in widespread election fraud, and literally stole the election from the rightful winner, Donald Trump.

Because that's what I'm arguing against. I'm arguing that the very valid and proven claims made by the Democrats in 2016 regarding "Election Interference" is not the same thing as the claims that are being made today by the GOP.

The people that I'm arguing against are claiming that this is *exactly* what the Democrats did in 2016, therefore it's OK that the GOP is doing it now.

"I believe he understands that the many varying tactics they used, from voter suppression and voter purging to hacking to the false stories - he knows that - there were just a bunch of different reasons why the election turned out like it did."
