Time to make Election Day a federal holiday.

OdradekRex: Time to make Election Day a federal holiday.

I keep saying we need to make Election Week a holiday. All states should have at least one week of early voting & employers should be required to provide all employees a day off of the employee's choosing during that week that they would not normally have off.

Otherwise all essential workers wouldn't get the day off, & as 2020 showed us, a large portion of the country is essential workers.

Sounds like congress really needs to hurry up with that voting rights act.

Too many people would still be stuck working. And even if you have the day off, some people can't physically take waiting in line for 8 hours.

Making early voting available for 1-2 weeks out from election day would fix a lot of access issues. No-excuse mail-in voting would be the best option, though.

Good Luck, that means the poors, the blah people, and the dimmycrats would vote more.

Prohibition of Food and Drink for people waiting in line?

That's pathetic

DianneG: Georgia's GOP-controlled House just passed #HB531 by a 97-72 vote. Among other voting restrictions, HB531 would limit location & hours of drop boxes, reduce early weekend voting, prohibits giving food/drink to voters waiting in line. Bill goes to State Senate now.

So if giving out money is protected speech by citizens united then surely so is giving out water and food

I tried to logically come up with an argument as to why early /weekend voting would be restricted ... and just nothing. No legitimate argument exists. Just rigging the system for more power and racism.

Can't do anything at the Federal level either because the filibuster exists.

FFS, how many times am I going to have to post that Republicans hate democracy? And WTF, it will be illegal to give someone inline to vote a bottle of water? Jayzus.

It's never a good sign when the laboratories of democracy start experimenting with fascism. GA isn't the only state, either. This shiat needs to be shut down fast.

The Republican Party wants to remain in power.

That's the argument.

The easier it is to vote, the better the Democratic Party tend to do-and vice versa.

you are spot on such restrictions are to limit voter turnout as lower turnouts favor the GOP.

Pick up your complimentary pizza and bottled water in the parking lot before entering the line.

Well, thankfully when that bill is challenged, we'll have a 6-3 decision saying it's perfectly constitutional.

2021-03-01 6:19:04 PM
Not that they have tried to come up with one, but how the hell are they trying to justify the prohibition of giving food and drinks to those in lines?

JFC these people are a holes

It is not so much lower turn out but targeted voter restrictions in Democratic locations, making it even harder to vote.

Makes you wonder how many people just voted for Biden or the Democratic Senators and left the rest of the ballot blank. Or, worse, voted Republican down ticket. They only lost two seats despite the Dems winning all of the statewide races.

We have this in Colorado, anyone who tells you it is prone to fraud is a liar, or is dumb enough to believe a liar.

stupid republicans. Seriously. Voting was made easier and they picked up house seats and almost held the senate if not for the top of their ticket dragging them down

Millions of new people voted and a lot for the GOP. They actually gained in the house. and now they are going to make it more difficult for many of those very same voters who supported them

They are beholden to a lie about voting. Making it easier didn't really help democrats at all. And it could be argued it helped the GOP

They could have just as easily held GA if trump and his cohorts weren't morons telling people not to vote

It is very likely that a fairly large number of anti-Trump Republicans are what pushed Biden over the edge on the first vote, and that Trump's complaining and lawsuiting and whatnot hurt the the two Republican Senators in the second vote.  More people voted for Republicans than Democrats in both Senate races on the first vote.

So if I am standing in line and give the person behind me one of my Mentos I am breaking the law?

Eh...then the GOP argument will be that giving food and water to people waiting in line is tantamount to buying votes, while simultaneously hiring a food truck on election day to give free hamburgers hamberders to anyone who agrees to vote Republican.

If this passes I will absolutely go pass out water first to the whitest neighborhood I can find then to the highest percentage minority neighborhoods I can find. My Lilly white ass will do this ALONE and I will happily be arrested for this, I already know WHERE I will be.

Someone needs to give out food and water and test this law. If said person has no political affiliation clothing on then there is a chance to have it tossed. Bonus is have a few go to the opposing predominant precincts and see who takes them up on the offer. I bet everyone would.

Everybody who fought in WWI is gone, simply make Veteran's Day fall on the Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Honor veterans and make voting day a National Holiday in one fell swoop.

And give everybody bottled water.
