Rosamund Pike is an attractive lady. That is NOT a flattering photo of her.

...I know that name from somewhere.

That's not how Balefire works, subby. ColludyRudy would have been burnt out of the Pattern,, having never existed.. Unfortunately, he's still here.

Bakalova was incredible as Borat's daughter. I haven't seen I Care A Lot so can't compare Pike's performance for myself, but I didn't see any performance this year more deserving of awards than Bakalova's.

Also, Giuliani wasn't married when that scene was filmed, and Bakalova was of age. The whole thing was creepy as fark and terrible judgement for someone in his position. However, it wasn't illegal.

That's not how Balefire works. It doesn't delete you out of the Pattern from all time, it deletes you at some point in the past, depending on how strong your weave was.

Was about to make the same reply, see it's already covered.

Making a show out of a work so vast seems freaking impossible.

The tricky part is going to be how much of the character work is internal, though that's hardly unique to adapting WoT. The size of the series isn't really going to be the problem; A large chunk of the word count goes to description, which, you know, visual medium takes care of a lot of the heavy lifting.

Plus they've already said if they get that far(they're writing and planning like they'll be able to do the whole series) they'll be justifiably condensing some of middle/later books. 10 is the only one that really dragged for me, but I can see the arguments for 9 and definitely 8.

I'm sure it'll be fine. They promise to wrap it up in seven or eight seasons.

I didn't know she won a golden globe - that is so cool! I agree she was fantastic. She steals the show from the titular character.

//Thom Merrilin will play guitar in the adaptation. Ready to rage quit yet?

It should still be a crime if the perpetrator believes his partner is 15

There are already people raging that they moved the ruby in Mat's Shadar Logoth dagger from the pommel to the hilt, so there are people ready to rage over anything.

Only prop they've already revealed that rubs me the wrong way is Tam's sword being a plain katana, rather than the eastern/western blend that's more common in art from the books. I'm not going to abandon the show over it though.

It's a goddamn crime that Bakalova didn't win. By far the standout performance in a comedy (and any film) of the year.
WTF is I Care A Lot doing in musical or comedy?  It was neither. It's a straight up drama.

I feel like she's had a sneaky good career for an actress who got her break as a Bond girl.

You are both correct. Been a while since I read WoT. I bow to the more knowledgeable.

He didn't think she was 15. Nobody told him that. The movie told us she was supposed to be 15, and they told other people in the movie that that was her age, but as far as Giuliani was concerned, she was an of-age conservative reporter who was flirting with him.

I'm not defending Giuliani. The guy's a sleazebag. But I prefer to throw accurate shiat at him, and he had no reason to believe that Bakalova was underage.

She was nominated, but Rosamund Pike beat her. I didn't see Pike's performance so don't have an opinion about whether the Globes made the right call. Bakalova would be hard to be for me, though.

Those Tar Valon witches, man, crafty. She'd have had nothing to worry about from Rudy, though, Lan would have seen to that.

Except then it would work the other way as well.

No, looking forward to it.

I've been trying to put fans I know in the mindset that it's an adaptation, not a translation. So things like the guitar probably being easier to film, or having a better built-in cultural shorthand for musical ability and creativity are all fine compromises. We're not going to have 3 chapters of POV, so they'll need to convey info. more quickly. And since we're not going to get POV and most of the audience won't have read the books anyway they have to revise the story. They'll have to amalgamate characters or events to make it more coherent.

And if they want to just cut stuff out like the Shaido story arc (particularly after book 5), or Masema's Ghealdeanin crusade / jihad / whatever, or Gawyn's farking endless joy-sucking brood-fest, I'm cool with it. Expecting it to be the same is pointless and it'll be fun to see someone else's interpretation for a different medium.

/If they cut Hopper or Verin I'm burning down the studio.

I think it depends on which direction they really go.

For lack of a better summary, they can either go the CW Teenage hero direction, or the GoT murder and darkness direction.

Both types have their fans, but personally I'd much rather see another show with the production values of GoT (fingers crossed for competent conversion to screenplay).

But Wheel of Time certainly has enough characters and themes that would fit the 'every hour our heroes have to learn a lesson about trust and friendship route with the evil character of the week' model that they might go that route instead.

Does it have a heron carved or etched on the blade?

Yeah, that part is fine. The blending of styles is just so distinctive in descriptions and places like the map illustrations, but it's not a huge deal.
