She was awesome in The Fall and Sex Education. The Fall is awesome; Sex Education was just okay for me.

My favorite performances for her were in American Gods.

"Because, unlike some other Prime Ministers and FBI Agents, I can speak with an English accent."

Not very surprising that some people are bemused about this (to put it kindly).  Remember, there were people who should have known better who were stunned to hear Hugh Laurie speak in his native British accent.

And yet, as an American who saw her on Top Gear, I was surprised to hear her speaking in a British accent.

Isn't life weird?

She's bidiaectical.   John Barrowman does the same thing (he's Scottish but was raised for a long time in the US).  They will change their accent based on their audience.

Weirdest damn thing I saw was a video of Gillian Anderson on some British chat show speaking with the host with her British accent.  One of her fellow guests was American.  He asked her a question and without missing a beat, she turned to him, answered him with her American accent then immediately turned back to the host and continued in a British accent.  It was disorienting.

She lived there as a child, I believe, and lives there now, so I could see how it would come and go. Seems a bit of an affectation though... Thatcher aside, her accent in Sex Education is pretty much flawless.

Pretty sure that's from the abysmal X-Files reboot a few years ago. I may have worn out my Apple TV remote on that scene.

It absolutely was and that scene made the entire return worth it. She's a treasure.

GregoryD: Also many people are suprised to hear Pat Morita speak without an accent and not like Mr. Miyagi. He grew up in California dudes.

Only people who saw Karate Kid first. I had already seen him speak accent-free on M*A*S*H.

I'm from Philly, but live in Michigan. The second I talk to one of my friends or family from home, my accent comes right back.

It was pretty fascinating to see Colin Farrell turn his Irish accent on and off when I was working on A Home at the End of the World. He'd shoot his scenes sounding like an American, then hang out with people between takes and just go to his default voice.

She was great as Hannibal Lecter's therapist.  She was arguably creepier staring through people than he was casually making leg of "lamb" out of a Maryland State Trooper.

Read somewhere years ago where he said the fake limp and the fake accent were the hardest things about working on House. I could imagine that would be the case.

Randomness: His blues albums are amazing.

Is that another version of code-switching?
