Any modern political issue is "divisive." Talk about overly broad.

It's pretty narrow really, tldr: Saying anything that contradicts the GOPQ party line is illegal.

This.

These are the staunch defenders of the constitution? Har. Course this is well known anti-USA behavior for many years.

Good. That should take care of that fascist Pledge of Allegiance.

The dumbing down of America continues.

Godspeed patriots.

Just charge people with corrupting the children. It worked for the ancient Greeks, right?

Conservatives sure don't like the idea of free speech

2021-03-01 8:23:05 PM
Facts and education are a threat to the conservative's holds on power, so of course conservatives will choose to go full 1984 about education and facts in order to prevent that loss of control from happening.

Regulating speech?
Fark off back to Russia with that noise!

People always say, "Socrates, what is the meaning of life?"

Nobody ever says, "Socrates, don't drink hemlock, because it is poisonous."

While America was focusing on defeating Trump, the Koch's and other AFP and Norquist's Taxpayers Org were busy doing in other states what they did in Kansas and Wisconsin. As a result the New Hampshire Legislature has swung hard into reactionary territory...now we see these really stupid bills passing in the House and the Senate looks to be controlled by the same Kochesque putsch.

It's fascinating how so many flavors of bad policy initiatives crop up at almost exactly the same time, with almost the exact same intentions, in so many places.

Somebody ought to look into do something about that.

So the states are all WWG1WGA all of a sudden? Another coordinated effort to suppress education.

Par for the course for the GQP.

So no legislation that promotes discrimination against the LBBT+ or black and brown community? No more blanket amnesty for police brutality? I'm good with that.

these educators aren't losing their right to free speech.  They're losing their right to collect a pay check for spouting nonsense the ppl who cut their checks don't agree with.

You're employee has a right to pay you (or fire you) for doing whatever type work they deem appropriate.

Don't like it?  Get a new job.  Or stick to the script your employer wants.

Have no worries, in a few years Milquetoast Middle America will give them all three branches of government again and they'll be sure to put that on the docket.

It's not that they disagree with it.  They just don't want to admit it, because of the implication that we should do something about it.

You sort of have to remember New Hampshire population is loaded with white flight.  If you stop around up there you'll find some normal enough people.  But meet 10 and you will find one who is just ready to f*cking snap.

You mean there might be some sort of vast right-wing conspiracy to push blatantly un-American policies into law that's been hiding behind the outrage curtain maintained by propagandized media?  You must be some sort of smart ALEC to believe that.

You can legislate that pi=3, as some states tried to do because "biblical math" is a thing now apparently, but reality isn't going to accommodate that nonsense.  The same is true of science and history.

Those dedicated to ignorance are just going to find the world moving on without them, much as it has with every other luddite movement in history, because idiots just aren't important enough to keep around.

"So a panel on China's ethnic genocide of Uighurs would still be permitted, but only if the topic is presented in a positive light. I doubt that's what anti-woke crusaders have in mind, but it is the likely consequence of their Orwellian bill."

Naw it sounds about right.  Think about all the good things that came out of slavery, amirite?

You made one spelling error, three grammatical errors, and two punctuation errors in one stupid post. I think you've forfeited your right to criticize the educational background of anyone else.

What is your point?

Here's my point.

Liberals and Conservatives have better get used to the idea of battling with ideas instead of cutesy memes or cruel slurs if we want to survive as a democracy. And I am really not sure we have the ability to do that.

So gird up your loins my friends if you want to fight the good fight. Be prepared to get wounded and bargain for a better future. We need a battle; but of wits. And if you can't do it. Maybe you deserve to lose.

2021-03-01 9:15:01 PM

Also conservatives: You can't say that any more we made it illegal

They'd probably be all about teaching that. Because Republicans think that Democrats and liberals are besties with China and making China look bad = making Democrats look bad. 🙄

Plus the Uyghurs are mostly Muslim, so the GQP loves that part of the genocide.

You're mistaken. They love the abstract idea of it.
They just don't like the reality of it very much.
"What? THEY get to talk, too? They aren't even white!!"
