(NFL)   Alex Smith posted a 5-1 record as a starter this season, helping lead Washington to an unlikely playoff berth, so of course they will get rid of him   (nfl.com) divider line

Dan Snyder's legacy will continue to be unmarred by success.

Everything time he got tackle last season, I was afraid that his leg was gonna explode.  I get that he is competitive and wants to play the game.  But, dude, walk away while you still can.

baron von doodle: Hell, the Cards backed up the money truck for Watt. Who knows.

Always ĺiked Alex Smith.  To see him, Fitz,Hopkins and Watt get a ring would be great.  Houston fan btw.

As a Cowboys fan, I have nothing but respect for Alex Smith, and he played for two of our rivals.

At worst he ends up as the best backup in the NFL but Chicago could sure use him as a starter along with a few others.   It would be interesting to see him start for the Pats to be honest.

He'll be 37 in a few months. He's an immobile, game managing quarterback at best, and wasn't THAT great when he was on the field last year. He also costs $24MM if they keep him around. This is the right move for a team that desperately needs to find a long term QB.

I respect Alex to the nth degree, but HE didn't really win the games for WFT.  He didn't lose 'em either, but it was the team (mainly defense) that won the games.  I'll always root for Alex, but don't see him lasting a full season.

Not a bad idea to see what is out there.

You aren't winning a Super Bowl with it without him. Smith isn't the future of your franchise and if you can get value for him before getting a high draft pick next year

Brady didn't lose the Super Bowl, either.  Sometimes you just need someone who isn't going to fark up and will let the defense do their thing

It would be risky to expect him to last 16 games, but somebody will want him as an experienced backup who could help teach a young QB and maybe play a couple of games if the starter got injured.

They're working out a long term deal to sign Steve McNair.
