My former best friend lives in Texas.  I've not talked to him since before the election because his Q-Anon wife got him roped into it all, too.  They are complete and utter idiots that I no longer speak to, and that's just sad. It may seem petty but his entire family, except his mother, won't talk to him or his wife, either.

It's that bad with them. Texas has it's own backwards culture of white supremacy, guns and God, usually in that order.

All politics are national right now and the Dems national platform doesn't poll well in tx for a variety of reasons. Dems can't break from the national platform and run a platform more sympathetic to local reality without losing their own base so Dems in Texas (and lots of the rest of the south) are kind of s.o.l.

Add in a healthy dash of Republicans disenfranchising minority and urban voters, a splash of extreme gerrymandering, and you have solid republican control even when they are objectively terrible at being stewards locally.

We need to reach out in a bipartisan fashion towards these Texans and agree that only half of it was actually snow, while the other half is a mystery substance used to attack them.

Democrats can and should hammer home the fact that Republicans' preparation was inadequate and their response was callous. But this should also support a much larger thesis, following on other challenges like climate change and the pandemic: that American conservatism simply does not have the answers to modern economic problems.

The same way the one against PG$E went... Nowhere.

Here's the thing people don't seem to understand about the GQP cultists. They have ZERO self awareness and have ZERO self preservation as long as it whatever it is can (and will) be used to make anyone not them look bad.

It's like sticking your dick in a wall outlet to prove that the power is on... Best case in their eyes is they are right. If it can make "Libs" look bad they WILL 100% destroy themselves to do it... People need to understand that.

Until more people understand that these people are a complete lost cause we'll continue with the bullshiat well wishing and "Love Conquers All" garbage that WILL cause us to eventually lose whatever power we've managed to wrench out of their hands.

Seriously, anyone who can should get out before it's too late. Dump was the iceberg. Don't stick around to tip the band.

This reminds me a bit about my trip to Arizona.

I had a four hour drive, so I put on the radio. Was listening for a bit to some local RWNJ radio host going on a rant about bootstraps and self-support, how Obamacare was evil etc.  At least it wasn't country music.

On the way back to Phoenix a few days later, I was just a bit ahead of the front edge of a tropical storm.  The same guy was on the radio - biatching about how the local government hadn't stocked enough sandbags for everyone.  "How am I supposed to protect my house with two sandbags" he asked.  "And they give poor people, who have less to protect, more!"*

/*I do not know if this is true or not.

And in my state, there's the bonus of staggered voting for the State Senate, so they put the competitive districts with the lower voter turnout with the midterm election, and the packed districts voting with the President.

Yeah, because Freedumb did such a bang-up job making sure Texas' electric grid stood up to this test.

You people literally have nothing, other than bleating the same debunked lies again and again.

Listening to Kitboga trolling a scammer by calmly going off on a totally irrelevant tangent about how many raw eggs his character puts in her milk and just continuing to babble on no matter what the scammer says is hilarious, but it's not applicable to nation-state governance.

Hey that's great. But it's a wildly conservative state and whilst all conservatives certainly aren't racists, they sure seem to be on board with them.

And if we're sharing anecdotes, I lived in Killeen for five years and witnessed racism on a weekly basis so bully to you for avoiding it so successfully, but it more certainly exists tucked in neatly amongst all those 5 gallon hats and belt buckles.

They might not be clan, but HATING people because they're black is what Americans think of as racism and that's not what it is.  That's the ultimate expression of extreme racism
