Maggi's okay, Crystal hot sauce is a decent hot sauce without being wow, and I'm pretty sure I've had Walkerswood jerk sauce and wasn't impressed.

Crystal's probably not the hot sauce for you then. For folks with lower heat tolerance, it does a reasonable job of adding some warmth without changing the flavor much.

Of that list, I've only had Crystal's. I've been collecting hot sauces and the like during the pandemic, and banana ketchup is something I'm aware of, but have never tried. Is it any good? What's the flavour profile?

Not sure why Crystal is on that list.  It's boring AF.

I get down with the other umami bombs tho.

I've got various nut butters, hot pepper sauces and powders, and sugars.
Its easy to combine them for a particular use.

I guess in a restaurant making a batch might make sense, but at home it would be something that has to be used up.

I love Crystal. It's just not as aggressive as so many hot sauces out there now.

crystal is fine... for what it is. which is not saying much. or franks, or tabasco, or 1000 others. (I know people have their own personal strong preference on the matter, but to me they're all similar enough it doesn't matter) - but even moreso yeah agreed, why's it on this list exactly?

(also what's that stuff you mentioned not too long ago, I did get all the ingredients but have yet to make... Muhammara?)

Yep!  Do the Chef John recipe.  It's one of those vegetarian foods that will make anyone forget about meat.

maggi is ok for what it is. nice to have, I know some families who swear by it and keep on hand as a necessity, I can live without it.

what do I keep on hand at all times? 7-spice, FTFA even. some in a ceramic grinder, to really get up in those areas. do yourself a favor and save a few bucks - the tiny glass bottles are cute to have, but 330g is only $8-9.

Mujdei, Yassa and Zhoug all sound interesting.

I already have 1kg of white miso paste in my freezer, and another 1kg of doenjang and ssamjang en-frigo. plus 3 bottles of kewpie mayo. but, hey TFA, at least you tried?

I do need to restock on fermented black bean sauce, not sure I ever had the laoganma version and more than a couple farkers have brought up that brand in last couple weeks, so that's on my list.

surprised there was no mention of:
- gochujang
- taberu ra~yu
- 7 brazillion other tasty things
