(Canton Repository)   All 460 rejected license plates last year in Ohio. Apparently, they didn't want someone advertising about their large dark-colored Dodge   (amp.cantonrep.com) divider line

License plates are the weirdest place for expression short of decals on a rear window.  Almost every one of these rejected plates makes me wonder why a person would want to broadcast such a message.  It's not a message to others, it's indicative about the owner.  Why tho?

How much does a vanity plate cost?  Does the cost cover the whole apparatus to produce them?  4-5 part time jobs to review, approve, and hear appeals. Inserting the in the production queue, tracking them, etc.

I guess it's no weirder than the special frames.

Let's see here...

(A plate will be rejected if it) contains words, combinations and/or phrases that advocate immediate lawlessness.

Awesome, no Trump plates then.

Can't do that at the KFC anymore, cops got wind of it. Now everyone meets down by the creek behind the burrito place

Some tremendously bad ones in the UK where you have to make words from existing standard plates. People pay half a million for the good ones but most are pathetic like this one £1200 for Colin is gay?!

I'm wondering if SUP WEEB and NANI TF were submissions from the same applicant. On that note, the most weeb license plate I've ever seen in Ohio was YAOI on a white car with a huge anime paint job. I saw the paint job first, and when they passed me and I saw the plate I nearly died laughing.

There should be an exception for all the ones with TT in them, if you put them on an Audi TT.    I drove one for several years, and was always tempted to get something like that for the double entendre value.

Every once in awhile something dirty slips through, but not very often. And as hip as I am, I miss a lot of the hidden meanings. So I wonder about the committee that accepts/rejects the plates. Is it a bunch of 14-year-old boys that can see every combination of letters and numbers that could possibly mean "penis"?

When I see a vanity plate my first thought is that the owner is probably a douche. Not fair, but that is where my mind goes.

I did get a chuckle from a Maserati with a plate that read DOES 185, but that was mostly because it was in the shop unable to do anything at all.

Wish I kept the pic I snapped years ago of the Ontario plate that said "BJ MOM". (It was accompanied by an image of a blue jay, so likely a reference to youth athletics, but come on...)

And the funniest non-vanity plate Ive seen still has to be the commercial pickup with a random 2 letter 4 number combination that said "NE 1469".. At least in MI, im pretty sure vanity plates can't be in the format of existing randomised plates.

I work in the field of vehicle maintenance and repair. One observation I have made in this business is I have seen many cars with vanity plates come in for their annual inspection and fail for some usually minor issue. Their reason being "I don't have any money right now" Makes me wonder what other poor financial decisions they choose besides wasting money on vanity plates.

But, what kind of dumbf*ck, asshole was a license plate that says 'THE JEW K'?

VEGANAF => Yep, he's a vegan, and he's gonna make sure everyone knows.
GRBNASS => Most people don't announce they're a sexual predator, then there's this guy.
fark GAS => Agreed. The painful bloating, the embarrassing sound of release and ensuing odor, ...
BOS B1CH & BOSS BIH => I'd like to know what this lady got that eventually passed the filter.
A SPADE => I was today year's old when I learned this used to be a slur for black people.
HUMBLAF => And you're gonna shout this fact to the whole world.
IML8AF => That's why you make your partner wear a condom.
NANI TF => Some Total Farkers want to advertise their favorite website.
FKN AWOL => This will make the MP's job easier.
922 AF => The 922d was/is a squadron in the Air Force that I was assigned to in Iraq. That's more comforting than looking up the Urban Dictionary entry.
K1LLME => Probably not the best thing to put on a car.
BJ 69 KFC => Sounds like a great second date, actually.
BAD BIHH => I guess she's still trying.
SHAG BOX => On a white van with artwork on the side windows and a "free candy" sign on the door.
JEEP69 => I've never known a Jeep where that wouldn't be painful AF.
IPULOUT => That's a lie.
CASTR8R => Definitely giving you a wide berth.
GEEK AF => Sorry, you need to spell that with 3's and an @ sign.
FISTR => Yeah, I've been to New Vegas.
METH HED => 50 B8.
R U KUMN => That'd be a little bit of a distraction.
EATBUTT => Most were variations on ass, this guy must like ham sandwiches.
BROKASF => But enough money to pay the state to advertise this fact.
EATTHE => Sadly, Ohio doesn't have a "Kid's First" Specialty plate. But there is one for "Ohio Beef".

most of those seem to fit under the category of  "Seriously bruh? you thought that was gonna get approved?"

Now i have never sought out a personalized license plate, considered it but never did it so i have no clue what is any fees are involved with getting one approved.   I know once it's approved there are the standard fees for the plate + what ever upcharge they add for a personalized plate.

I have to wonder if they added  say $50 or more deposit for approval, that is approved it was deducted from the cost of the plate but if it was not it was forfeited if it would cut down on people submitting anything that anyone with a pair of functioning brain cells has to know would never pass muster.

The best line in the whole article: WAP is also an acronym for a phrase not safe for work and one we cannot print.

I'm really not surprised someone tried to get that on a license plate but unless your a cat specific pet groomer ain't nobody wanna know about it

Gotta love this old one from Chappelle Show

Every state I've lived has a pretty detailed section of their DMV or equivalent website devoted to all the options, rules, and fees.  One thing that is consistent that I've noticed is that most states have amateur radio plates, with the only option being to put your FCC-assigned call sign that's printed on your license. What most people don't know is that you can get a vanity call sign, as long as it meets the FCC's format, and isn't already in use, it will usually be issued.  The FCC does have some pretty narrow windows in its format for valid call signs, but I think a clever enough individual could slip one through, and then have a rather vulgar plate.

You could go that route, but since fcc call signs are in a publicly searchable database, id rather not plaster a quick link to my name and address on my car.

(Had my amateur license for 10+ years, never had and wont get an amateur plate.)
