How many of them thanked Harvey Weinstein for making this all possible and mentioned how much they owe him?

Nomadland - great. Mank was severely overrated.

Chadwick - the material was super melodramatic and he really leaned into it. I get the win, but Riz Ahmed probably had the better performance.

How was Kaluuya a supporting character in Judas? He's a co-lead.

Borat 2 - big nope from me. Loved Borat 1. Borat 2 bored me and I shut it off after 30 minutes.

Of all the winners of any category, the only one I saw is "The Trial of the Chicago 7", and that was a couple of weeks ago. It's been a crap year for movies and TV.

I saw the trailer for Nomadland. It looked incredibly boring. Just Francis McDormand walking through a trailer park.

Duh, the pandemic killed pilot season for TV, and many movies are waiting for theaters and festivals to back to 100%.

It was uneven but some jokes were better than the first one. The fertility dance for example:

Glad to see Anya Taylor-Joy won for Queen's Gambit, and said limited series won best ... limited series.  On that note, I haven't seen 'Emma' yet but it looks fun.

She wasn't even trying to throw the One Ring into Mount Doom.

Mark Ruffalo, I Know This Much Is True

Maybe it's just me, but I just can't picture him as the lead in a Spandau Ballet biopic.

Jason Sudeikis getting a well-deserved win for Ted Lasso while in full Lasso garb at 2am GMT was the highlight for me.

Didn't see Any of the shows mentioned. My Cable & Internet costs enough, I won't pay for any Extras.

This is something I'm trying to wrap my head around as a movie fan. I love seeing the nominees, the winners and then talking shiat/debating them before and after. The actual awards ceremony itself? I haven't watched one in years just because of my schedule.

This.....It wasn't the worst thing I've watched but it was boring as hell. I get the art but I WANT TO BE ENTERTAINED. I did enjoy I Care A Lot.....That was an pretty good, almost believable movie.

/I did say "almost"
//I also like the Dinklage

Usually, out of all of them, the Globes is the one to watch. Half the audience is drunk & the acceptance speeches border on IDGAF territory. I skipped this year as without it being held like normal, I knew it wouldn't be worth really watching.

NOMADLAND
Worst thing: diarrhea scene
Best thing: 4 seconds of naked Frances McDormand
(These do not happen at the same time)

Sorry subby. Couldn't find enough shiat to give to read that.

You already answered your question.  The best actor category was really strong and had likely posthumous competition, so they submitted it in a less competitive category, and the category ended up pretty weak.  I can't speak for Odom Jr's performance, but Leto and Murray were weak, while Cohen was the only other strong candidate of the films I saw at least.  It was a much easier category to compete in

And I agree on Riz.  He's just a great actor in general.  I think that the material plays better to the Oscars than the Golden Globes.  In a different year, I think that Mank is your typical Golden Globe bait film

I don't get the fawning over Nomadland. I thought it was the weakest of all the nominated films.

I really like The Crown and thought Gillian Anderson was AMAZING (didn't even realize it was her until the credits) but Mandalorian and Bob Odenkirk were robbed.  And where the hell was Rhea Seahorn's nomination??

I liked it, but it is different from the types of films that usually get awards. My biggest criticism of Nomadland lies in something small but annoying: did they have to put on soft piano music during an emotional monologue? Grrrr. Still an excellent film, according this critic.

That stuck out like a sore thumb to me, too. Plus, I guess maybe I screwed up a few weeks ago by re-watching Into The Wild after Hal Holbrook died.

Just felt like the plots were way too similar.
