Has he gotten psychological treatment for his mental illness?

2021-02-28 9:25:29 PM
Since the events in January, Cua has completed three online courses: College Algebra, Intro to Government and Intro to Marketing...

Seems like he should have had that earlier.

...His parents were long-time Trump supporters...

Oh. I think I see the problem.

He can finish his online courses with a Chromebook in jail. Or get a GED afterwards. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

The important question is, did he already have a trip to Mexico planned?

2021-02-28 11:23:40 PM
I was 18, I never felt the need to need to invade the capital. So, you get one of two options. Either you're mentally incompetent, or you ignored the law and invaded the capital.

Cua's case is a stark example of just how powerful misinformation can be. Both prosecution and defense agree that he was radicalized by what he read online, and the decision to embrace the falsehoods he discovered in chatrooms and social media changed the course of his life. And he wasn't alone. More than 250 people have been charged so far with breaching the Capitol and most of them, to varying degrees, were motivated to storm the building by the falsehoods they had been reading online and in social media for months.

The bolded part is the most relevant part. This isn't something that happened to people. This wasn't a passive act. Anyone who bought into this "stop the steal" bullshiat was making an active decision to believe lies that they knew were lies. They made the active decision to ignore the part of their brain that knew these were lies.

No pity. No remorse.

In a defense motion filed on Friday, Bruno Cua's lawyers said their client "is an impressionable 18-year-old kid who was in the middle of finishing his online coursework to graduate from high school when he was arrested."

Look, if we have to release people just because they're soft-headed morons, we'd have to release all of these idiots. So no.

If his name was Bashir Ibn Yusuf instead of Bruno Cua we wouldn't be having this discussion.

Him being impressionable is the exact reason he shouldn't be released to his Trumper parents.

If he says anything other than "Biden" he stays in the hole.

He can stay there until he says otherwise however long it takes.

Kyle Rittenhouse ruined this kid's chances. Kyle is still hiding, his defense lawyers won't say where he is.

Charge him the way they charge other people's kids for associating with a gang and posting belligerent crap online.

According to the defense motion, Cua had traveled to Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6 with his parents to attend a Trump rally. His parents were long-time Trump supporters and Cua had become one too. They had walked to the Capitol together, as a family, when a melee erupted on the Capitol steps. Bruno Cua asked his parents if he could go and take a closer look. They agreed and Cua quickly disappeared into the crowd. His parents only found out later, his lawyers said, that he had entered the Capitol and walked into the Senate chamber.

Can I go look? Can I? Can I? I'll paint the treehouse for free!
Well, okay, but you don't get into any trouble, ya hear now?
I won't! Thanks, ma! Thanks, pa!

Let me play devil's advocate for you, though. Since he was 14, maybe 13, he's been immersed in trumpworld. His parents are long time and ardent trump supporters. During the entire time he has been becoming politically aware, his world has been dominated by Fox News, OAN, Breitbart, Infowars and QAnon. And he was a captive audience by way of his parents. So when the time to attack the capital came, he wasn't someone who knew better; He'd been programmed since his early teenage years to believe all of this stuff.

This boy has been mentally abused, mentally injured, and needs to be put into a ward to be deprogrammed and allowed to have his chance to join society once the right wing propaganda has been removed from his head.

While I can't completely disprove the existence of such a scenario, I find it extraordinarily farfetched to say the least.

As with people who grow up with religion, it is overwhelmingly likely that this person knew what they were being taught is pure bullshiat. People are not that stupid to simply not notice contradictory evidence; our brains are literally wired to recognize patterns and reconcile facts.

The problem with this person, and with every religiois person, is not that they're incapable of recognizing the bullshiat. They recognize it. The problem is the societal pressure to pretend that you don't recognize it. The problem is when your parents, peers, and community, actively reward lying to yourself and others while punishing any suggestion that the obvious bullshiat is obvious bullshiat.

This person wasn't tricked or brainwashed. They simply caved to peer-pressure, and I don't find that to be a compelling excuse.

Ignorance breeds irrational fear.
You don't usually get one without the other.

They don't have a hard on, they're just never not pissing their proverbial pants and grasping for their semiautomatic security blankets.

If they seem angry, it's to subconsciously draw attention away from the aforementioned metaphorical wet spot on their crotch.

My dad was a racist. He blamed fighting in the Middle East on Black's, for God's sake. Every trouble in his world was their fault. He often, upon hearing Obama's name on the news, would say, "Someone ought to go shoot that ******."

I never could see his side. I didn't want to see his side. I tried to change his mind....it didn't work. He died a racist.

Here's the kicker. He claimed he was a Christian. Jesus said love everybody. My dad sure didn't.

I'm sorry the kid's parents are shiat people, but, he attacked the government. Shiat's still wrong. I hope the kid learned a lesson.

Honestly, I doubt he will.
