Much of America's infrastructure - roads, bridges, public drinking and water systems, dams, airports, mass transit systems and more - is in need of major restoration after years of underfunding, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers. In its 2017 Infrastructure Report Card, it gave the national infrastructure an overall grade of D+.

Which is a f*cking DISGRACE. Getting our infrastructure up to civilized standards is what would make us great, not empty lip service to "the troops" or a stupid flag.

"So the size - the package - the components of it, the order, that has not yet been determined."

Well the components are the traditional twig and berries.  As to the order, you want to keep the frank above the beans.

Actual investment in infrastructure is vitally needed after 4 years of Trump lying about "infrastructure week" and doing nothing so I am okay with this.

You know, with all these taxes we pay, I am starting to think D.C. and elected officials don't know what to do with them other than hand them out to friends.

The GQP wanted to team up with Putin for infrastructure week

Too bad the GQP couldn't prevent enough Americans from voting to stay in power. Looks like the Dems will have the chance to do infrastructure.

A report from a few years ago found that infrastructure in northern, mainly blue states needed the majority of road and bridge work due to winter wear.  Baltimore alone needs something crazy like $50+ billion just to fix the water system.
Why would the GOP help blue states?

Because suddenly Texas and a lot of southern states need a lot of infrastructure work after the polar freeze they got.

The GOP had all the votes it needed to do it themselves dipshiat. They decided that hurting brown people and more tax cuts for the richest were more important. At least learn how to lie more convincingly.

Here is the main reason infrastructure never happened. Libs would also benefit and that was considered unacceptable.

Why? Making the poor and middle class tax cuts permanent and stacking the rich taxes to modern levels while also incentivising pumping money back into the country is what most of America wants.

Most people worried about taxes don't actually give a shiat about rich people taxes. Anyone still clinging to hope that Reaganomics will work Any Day Now is beyond hope.

Pete Buttigieg said he was opposed to raising motor fuel taxes because of Biden's pledge to not raise taxes on middle-class families. It's been mentioned in that manner.

We can get a lot more done faster if we focus on the economically developing blue areas.

I wouldn't want to make this partisan. Truly.

But we have a responsibility to spend the taxpayer money where it will do the most good. And we wouldn't want to offend bootstrappy red states with soshulism.

Now go through the state legislatures who have spent decades raiding infrastructure funds, gas taxes and vehicle fees to pay for whatever was sexy that election year. It happens in red states and blue.

I think you'll find a number that comes fairly close to what should have been spent on maintenance.

But the same phonies who raided the money are coming back crying crocodile tears about how we need to invest in infrastructure.

Defendant: "I throw myself on the mercy of the court on account of I'm an orphan."
Judge: "That's because you killed your parents, asshat. Warden, throw the switch."

In other words, fark those guys.

The bill had better come with conditions: quit raiding your infrastructure money, or all you get from DC is a pimp hand upside the head.

Don't know why any repubs would ball at highway spending; the opportunities for graft and contractor shenanigans are legendary levels, and there will be jobs genrrated, cash flow into state and local economies, even considering the wastage from the duverted graft.

Nixon created the EPA during the Watergate hearings.

Bill Clinton mediated a peace treaty between Israel and Palestinians during impeachment.

A competent, capable President is disciplined enough to ignore distractions and continue to do his job.

Trump not only could not ignore the impeachment to work on other matters, he spent the other three years doing nothing but complaining about people who are mean to him.

But sewers aren't sexy.  Even though most big cities have overloaded systems built upwards of 100 years ago and are rapidly decaying.

For every $100 million F35 that rolls off the assembly line, a city could have a modern and safe water and sewage system.   But you can't have buzz cut Alabamians spewing colored smoke from a sewage system to the strains of "Rock You Like a Hurricane" at the local air show, can you?
